Top 6 Ways to Practice Self-Care

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UVA chapter.

Whether it’s academics, sports, jobs, volunteering, or other activities, we all work hard all day, every day. A lot of times our own self-care is neglected. Here are some simple ways to remember to always treat yourself! You deserve it!

1. Nail Painting

Whether going to the local salon or painting your nails yourself, having well-decorated nails always brings a happy smile! Try a new fun color like Essie’s Sequin Sash or Where’s my Chaffeur? The best part about nail painting is the clever, quirky names! Try coming up with your own fun name for different combinations of colors or decorations you may add!

2. Get a Massage

Ask a friend who gives good massages or go out to a local salon to relax yourself. Whether a full body massage or just shoulders and neck, massages always bring much needed relaxation and self-kindness that everyone deserves. Make sure you take deep breaths and enjoy every moment.

3. Take a Long, Hot Shower or Bath

Not only does a shower or bath bring cleanliness, but it is a treat to youself. Add some colorful and scented bubbles to your bath, and after your scrub-a-dub-dub treat yourself with scented lotion or some body butter.

4. Go Out for a Treat

Whether a quick stop at Starbucks for a coffee, or a relaxed lunch out, treat yourself to a speciality beverage or scrumptious snack or meal. Your taste buds will thank you!

5. Enjoy an Outing

Go to your mall or local shopping center, or go see a fun new movie at the theater. You don’t necessarily have to spend money because window shopping is the best! Or look for matinees of shows or cheap movie nights to save some pennies.

6. Dress for Yourself

Whether a cozy pair of sweatpants or a cute dress, take some time to plan out an outfit to wear that makes you smile and feel beauitful on the inside and out.

I hope these simple ways to practice self-care are useful and enjoyable to you! Treat yourself! :)
