5 Ideas to Cozy Up Your Room

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UVA chapter.

I recently moved into a new apartment and realized how much décor really matters when it comes to making or breaking your room. Small details can really, really, really make a big difference. So, here are my tips after moving into a couple different apartments and finally getting it down!

1. Pillows

These make such a difference – they can totally tie the colors of your room together. For example, I have a dark blue couch and a white comforter on my bed in my room, therefore I’ve gotten a bunch of dark blue and white striped pillows and now the two separate objects look like they belong together!

2. Colors

This is kind of random, but I’ve always been told that a room should have no more than three colors and honestly, it’s so true. The minute you go above three in your color scheme, it starts looking like too much. So, just choose a maximum of three and a minimum of two colors to decorate your room.

3. Lighting

So many people skimp out on lighting and just use the overhead light they already have, but a cute little lamp has the potential to completely change the way your room looks! The best is when you have cozy lights – it doesn’t have to be the Pinterest twinkly lights, but a funky lampshade can really bring out the uniqueness of your room. Make it your own! It really does change things.

4. Pictures

Amazon has a bunch of options for cool frames and hanging gadgets so you can really personalize your space. I currently have this string with little clothespins and just hung a bunch of pictures – it adds so much to the room. If you don’t like personal pictures, you could go to Marshalls or TJ Maxx and find cheap but cute pictures of scenery, travel, inspirational quotes!

5. Curtains

Barely anyone I know has curtains, but they can really tie a room together. It makes any place a lot cozier and it makes a college apartment look nothing like a college apartment (believe me that’s a good thing). There are so many options – have fun with it!

Those are my five tips on how to spice up your room. Hopefully, they’ll inspire some cute ideas! Enjoy decorating!

Smile, it makes you live longer!
