10 Free UTSA Resources You Need To Take Advantage Of ASAP

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UTSA chapter.

UTSA has many free resources that most students aren’t aware of. Everyone knows the John Peace Library (JPL) is open 24 hours, but you may not know that UTSA offers everything from programs that will boost your GPA to programs that will teach you lifelong skills that will save you money in the long run.

The Student Emergency Fund

Unexpected financial issues can take a toll on your GPA, but luckily, here at UTSA, the Emergency Fund’s got you covered. This year-old fund was created to help students facing unexpected financial situations of any kind. From medical bills to a stolen laptop to your car breaking down, the Student Emergency Fund will help you cover the cost and set your mind at ease.

 Free Tutoring Services

Being a full time student can be a lot to handle, and with such a fast paced  schedule, it can be hard to keep your grades up. UTSA offers free tutoring services on the second floor of the John Peace Library (JPL) and at the Tomas Rivera Center by the Peer Mentor office. Stop by to get help in a variety of subjects and work with a tutor in groups or individually.

Writing Center

If you’re struggling to write your latest essay, stopping by the Writing Center on the second floor of the JPL could be a life (and GPA) saver! Not only will tutors edit and proofread your essay, but you’ll get help improving your own writing skills for the future.

Demonstration Kitchen

Tired of fast food? UTSA offers free cooking classes upstairs at the recreation center! These classes teach students how to make a variety of recipes from college friendly meals to recipes from 5-star restaurants! Save your cash and learn a skill that can save you money in the long run.

Recreation and Wellness Center

Fitness classes at your local gym can get pretty pricey, but here at UTSA they’re free! UTSA’s Recreation and Wellness Center offers a variety of group fitness classes such as yoga, cardio, pilates, kickboxing, zumba, and more! If fitness is your New Year’s resolution, register for classes at campusrec.utsa.edu.

Safety Escort Program

Walking around campus alone can be nerve-racking, especially at night. The Safety Escort Program allows students to be escorted by uniformed police officers anywhere on campus, at any time. For Safety Escort Services, call 210.458.4242.

Resume Lab

It can be hard to build the perfect resume, and online resume building websites come with a price. If you’re free on a Wednesday from 1:30-3:00pm, stop by the Career Center and meet with a Career Counselor who will help you build a job-worthy resume.

Handshake

After you’ve built the perfect resume, log on to Handshake to find a job that’s the perfect fit for you. Through Handshake, students and alumni can upload their resume and easily find and apply for jobs, and internships, and connect with employers.

Career Closet

The Career Center will not only help you build a resume and score an interview, but they’ll also help you dress to impress! With the Career Closet program, students can rent out suits for interviews and other career related events and save money on expensive formal attire. All they ask is that you get it dry cleaned before you return it! 10. Study Rooms Need a quiet place to hold your study group session?
