The Key to Happiness: Focusing on You

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Utah chapter.

When it comes to happiness, a lot of things can come to mind such as family, friends, relationships and cute lil’ animals, but have you ever thought about yourself?

When you think about yourself, have you ever considered how you are also in charge of your own happiness? Your happiness can be strung out in various ways. It can also lead to multiple sanctions as well.  Below is a list of the tiny things that are reasons why you are in charge of your own happiness.

Why You are Your Own Reason for Happiness

Your perspective

Having your own insight on life is a powerful tool in which can help you realize that you are your own reason for happiness. You are in charge on making yourself happy. You have the power to change whatever that doesn’t satisfy your likings. With a new perspective, you are able to look at everything with fresh eyes. The saying, “Happiness is a state of mind” is a very valid philosophy. It’s valid because happiness is a choice and you have the power to do whatever you please. With a clear mind and a goal of being set, happiness is then attainable.

You are your own choices

Once you have realized your perspective is a way of reaching the state of happiness, you can then also acknowledge that you, as a person, is also a reason for your happiness. The choices and decisions you have made throughout your life is the reason why you are the way you are. And when you have a new perspective you then are inclined to fall in love with yourself. Having self-confidence and self-love is key to obtaining enlightenment.

Your values

Your reflection of life is based off your perspective, choices and values. Once you are able to make a switch and become more open to yourself, you are then closer to being happy. The values you gather from each experience and lesson you encounter throughout your life allows for you to understand where you stand. When you are able acknowledge where you stand and what you want in life, you will be able to take a hold of true happiness.

Overall, when it comes to putting a smile on yourself, don’t depend on others. Depend on yourself. Life is too short to wait on people to make a change. Start making a change with yourself. And remember this, take charge of you, accept your own perfection, focus on the good in the world, do what you love, create & spread positivity and most importantly celebrate who you are and who you are becoming.

With much love,
