Good Vibes Only: How to Incorporate More Positivity Into Your Life

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Utah chapter.

It seems as though our society has labeled being “sad” or “negative” as the norm and what the cool kids consider themselves as. The “sad girl” or “sad boy” is a name that we call those hip, Tumblr people that are way too “cool” to even be the slightest bit happy. Fortunately, the world has started to lash back at the negativity and bring in more light into the world and the lives of teenagers and young adults (those who may need as much positivity as they can get). Even if you aren’t trying to be the cool, “sad girl” and even if you feel yourself surrounded by negativity that you feel like you can’t escape, there are many different ways to incorporate a little bit more positivity into your life and brighten up your day.

Go to yoga. Yoga is a major trend nowadays and, honestly, it is extremely effective to reduce stress and feel a lot better mentally and physically. Taking time to go to yoga and do some meditation will have a major impact on your daily outlook. Going first thing in the morning can even bring in positive vibes for the rest of the day ahead of you.

Go outside. The outdoors and sunshine have a MAJOR impact on one’s mentality and emotions. Being in the sun immediately brings in some positivity to your day and you find yourself feeling more refreshed and awake.

Workout. Being active and working out helps release those chemicals in your body known as endorphins. These endorphins help you feel more positive and happy. Working out is extremely helpful in reducing stress. Even just going for a walk or a hike will be extremely helpful and leave you in a much happier mood.

Talk to someone. Talking to someone about the negativity you may be feeling can be extremely beneficial. You may as feel they do not understand, but simply just talking out your feelings and analyzing them with someone other than yourself can help you realize things that you may not have before. After a conversation with a friend or family member, you will feel much more at ease and not so alone.

Take some time for yourself: a mental health day. Perhaps talking to someone is not what you need. Rather, you just need to have some alone time. Taking time for yourself is practically a necessity. Sometimes you need to escape from the busy world and reality and just relax and be with you and only you. Watch some Netflix, take a nap, or put on a face mask. It’ll give your body some time to recover from your hectic week and help you unwind and not feel so uptight and stressed out. You’ll find yourself feeling much happier and in a much more positive mood and you’ll be able to take on the next week.

Some of these tips make work well for people, some may work well for others. It’s all about what you need at the exact moment and how you want to bring in more positivity into your life. Ultimately, it’s up to you as to what outlook you have on life. If you want positive vibes, it’s up to you to make it happen.
