Now comes the time in the semester when outfits mean little and makeup is a thing of the past. We break out the sweatpants and roll out of bed on a cold November morning. We throw the hair up into a high ponytail or hide it all together under a hat. This is called ready.

But just because the weather is cooling off and exhaustion is kicking in, doesn’t mean feminism is thrown out the window. To shift back in to gear and for a little new season inspiration, here are my five fall hairstyles that are easy and quick for early mornings or when I am real sick of the high ponytail.

1. The French Braids

It may seem childish, and I can tell you’re thinking about whether or not you can pull it off, but I do this at least once a week and believe me you can. To not give nightmare flashbacks of elementary school, I like to lead the braids more towards the front of my face then pull them apart to give a looser more tousled look. It stays literally all day and I never get sick of it.

2. The Middle Part Twist

This is my favorite date night look because you can still have hair down and curled all cute but there’s no worry about it getting in the way. It’s also got a fun festival feel that’s different and unique. For this look, part in the middle and twist small sections until they meet at the back. You can use decorative pins or small elastics to hold it together.

3. The Half-Up Top Knot

Always works. It cuts time doing your hair in half because the top half is hidden inside a bun. If you’ve got a lot of hair, like my good friend Katie here, don’t put all of it in the bun and leave a small tail out the back end.

4. The Tousled Pony

It’s a step up from your normal pony and great on an especially greasy day. I like to slick my hair back with a side or a middle part and let all the volume come from the pony. For a more put-together look, wrap a piece of the pony around the elastic so it doesn’t show.

5. The Jasmine

This one really has no recipe to it besides using small elastics to make the sections. Try leaving a few strands out of the sections to braid or wrap around the small elastics. Have fun with this one and make it a little messy. It will probably turn out different every time and that’s just all part of the experiment.

Don’t forget that hair is an awesome thing to have and it can be fun acting like an actual girl for 20 minutes and trying out new things. Get up, get dressed, get ready and don’t let the cold get you down.

I have arrived at my Senior year as a Journalism major at the Univeristy of Utah and once graduation hits I have no idea what's next. But that's kinda the cool thing about it. The possibilities are endless and I am never one to say no way. I have grown up in the bubble of Salt Lake City, Utah and happen to know a thing or two about being the one that doesn't quite fit the norm. I am awkward sometimes and a little embarrassed about how funny I think I am. The first thing someone will say about me when they meet me is that I am a sass, and I won't deny it. If life were a Subway sandwich and we could choose our bread and every one of our toppings then every year would be a new destination and peanutbutter would have zero calories. I am never not listening to music or doodling in future plans and trips into my dayplanner. I like to pretend I am a runner, really it's just a way for me to be outside a little longer everyday. If you like the Southern Utah desert and late night burritos then you are immediately my best friend.  @mauraruthdern
