As a girl who lives 2000 miles from her family, I have had to learn a thing or two about what every girl needs to know before she can call herself a grown-up. I use the phrase “grown-up girl” to describe myself because I realize that while I might be on the way, I am nowhere near an actual adult yet. The phrase I made points out that even though I am trying to step up to being a real-life adult, I am still just a girl.

A Go-To Job Interview Outfit

When going into an interview, you don’t want to have to worry about your outfit the whole time. Take some time and find what looks good on you and makes you feel polished and confident. Invest in staple pieces and know that business profession clothes are timeless and worth spending a little extra to get what will look perfect and last well.

A Go-To Going-Out Outfit

Whether you just got dumped, you’re going out with your girls, or you’re going on a first date, having a signature outfit that makes you feel confident will take so much stress of the night right out the gate.

How to Apply Professional Looking Make-Up

So maybe you spent 12 hours learning to master winged liquid liner (if so, you have me beat already), but do you know what will make you feel beautiful and work appropriate? Here are a couple of my tips!

How to Do Laundry (Including Ironing)

If you can’t iron, invest in a steamer. If you can’t do laundry, it’s time to learn. YouTube it.

How to Change a Tire

Thankfully, I have never actually had to use this knowledge, but I think I have the potential to make it happen in case of emergency. My dad taught me, and I recommend YouTube, again, if you ever find yourself in need.

How to Jump Start a Car

If you don’t have jumper cables in your car, get some. I have left my lights on and killed my battery an embarrassing number of times (three, if you were wondering). The instructions are on the package, but it looks really cool if you already know what to do when you try to jump your car, so I recommend reading ahead. Plus, it’s really cool to be able to offer to help someone else in need. Same thing with changing a tire.

How to Ask for Help

This might be my biggest weakness. I notoriously would rather complain about how hopeless I am than actually ask for help. Something I have been trying to work on since coming to college is recognizing that when I need help, the best thing to do is ask. No one is as worried about your ego as you are and people are generally happy to help.

My name is Chloe Thirion. I am a twenty-one year old Accounting major with a Management minor in the Honors College at the University of South Florida St. Petersburg.  I currently work on campus as an RA in Residence Hall One and at a daycare for kids under three years old.    I like the simple things in life. I love shopping for office supplies. A neatly organized to-do list can make me  positively giddy. I carry a small legal pad and a pen with me so I can take notes as I need. My favorite pizza is  margherita. I love coffee, tea, and hot chocolate and I believe there is a time and place for each. I like to  daydream. My favorite thing to do is read.  I have little, little siblings-- my brother Rhett is thirteen and my sister Lilly is six. I like to be the boss; that might be obvious from the birth order situation. I might even go so far as to say I'm a control freak.    I hope to go on to get my Master's of Accountancy after my bachelor's. I like school; I tell people it's the only thing I know how to do, but I'm (half) joking when I say that.
