Which is Worse: a Break-up with an Ex-Best Friend or an Ex-Boyfriend?

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at USF chapter.

If you’re like me collegiettes™, the words “break up” sends you running and crying in the opposite direction no matter what the situation might be.

We tend to think that the break up between us and our significant other is by far the most stressful and horrible experience to date. However, the break up between friends can be even worse.

To begin with, you and your best friend shared the same mutual friends. Now that you two are no longer friends what happens to your mutual friends? Does the word drama ring a bell? Good luck making plans because not only do you feel awkward about the situation but so does everyone else.

In a break up between you and a significant other you have your friends to turn to when looking for people to vent with, however when you break up with a best friend you can no longer turn to your friends to vent. Due to the fact you and your ex-best friend share mutual friends there is a good chance what you say while venting will get back to her.

You miss an ex-best friend way more than an ex-boyfriend. When an ex-best friend disappears from your life, it is like there is an empty hole in your life that nothing can fulfill. When you lose a boyfriend it is not the end of the world because there is always more to chose from.

There is a good chance you will run into your ex-best friend over your ex-boyfriend. You and your ex-best friend obviously enjoyed the same things and just because you two are no longer friends does not mean you will change the things you do and places you go. Unlike with an ex-boyfriend you two lived your separate lives and I doubt there is any chance of you running in to him at the nail salon or Victoria’s Secret. But don’t stress collegiettes™, break ups get better with time.
