The Best Weekend Activities for the Month of October!

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at URI chapter.

Spooky season is here! There are so many things you can do in October and I’m the type of person who wants to do everything! Some festivities I recommend for the weekends are listed below and they are all great to do with both family and friends!

Activity #1: Pumpkin Patch

Sweater weather is upon us! And pumpkin patches are the best place to dress up in your cutest sweater with a pair of jeans or leggings and some cute boots. Going to a pumpkin patch and dressing in a cute fall outfit is the way to do it. Pumpkin patches are also a great place to take aesthetic photos to post on your Instagram. Head over to a pumpkin patch with some friends or family and get your fall pictures holding some cute pumpkins!

Activity #2: Apple Picking

I actually have not been apple picking, but from the looks of it on Instagram it looks sooo fun! Apple picking is also a great opportunity to wear a cute outfit and take pictures! Get on a ladder and reach for apples. You can even have a competition with family or friends to see who can collect the most apples!

Activity #3: Bake Fall Desserts

The smell of fall is in the air! The smell of warm muffins and pies fill houses across the nation during this time of year. Personally my favorite fall dessert is mini pumpkin muffins! Other desserts are pumpkin pie, pumpkin cheesecake, warm apple crisp, spice cookies, apple cider pound cake or any other type of pie! You could make any of these desserts from scratch by searching up recipes online or you could buy them by the box! Tip: If you go apple picking before you start baking you can use the apples and know that they are fresh!

Activity #4: Corn Maze

Another one of my favorite activities! Go to the corn maze in the daytime or go to a haunted one at night to get some scares. I went to a corn maze on a field trip with my school once and I had the best time. I think corn mazes are so cool because it is a fun and hard challenge since the corn stalks are so much taller than you! You could also add a competition aspect to this and see who could gets out the fastest!

Activity #5: Haunted House

If you like being scared, this one is for you. Haunted houses are definitely a fun and frightening October activity, but make sure you get some friends to accompany you. When I would go with my friends, I liked seeing which one of my friends would get the scaredest! It’s always exciting to be with your friends and getting spooked together, but cover your ears if you’re next to someone who screams loud!

Activity #6: Carve Pumpkins

I’m not going to lie, carving pumpkins is HARD. After doing it for eight years, I still have to use a stencil! Carving pumpkins is so fun and a great way to show your creative side. Also a great bonding activity! Make sure you stay safe with the carving tools because they can be super sharp sometimes!
