It’s officially here! The holiday season we’ve anxiously waited for since October. ‘Tis the season (finally) for the diets to go on vacation and for our hands to always have a glass of coquito. Also, it’s the time to say goodbye to this crazy 2016 and say hello to what we desperately hope will be a better, newer, cuter 2017! After all, as Charles Lamb said, “New Year’s Day is every man’s birthday.” This traditionally comes accompanied by the never-ending glasses of wine or champagne, food wishes and ambitions for a better us as well! After all, what’s a New Year’s celebration without the resolutions?

There are many things to do resolutions for, and they always point towards a better, more awesome you:

  1. Forget it costs $30 and read that book you’ve been wanting to read for a while.
  2. Buy that red dress you’ve been too shy to take out of the store.
  3. Start drinking wine weekly. Don’t deny you’ve been wanting to do that.
  4. Save that money for the trip you’ve always wanted to take!
  5. Stop thinking about finding someone. Trust me, the right one will come along while you’re doing the things you love, so think about yourself, love yourself and the person will follow.
  6. Go a little bit crazy and get out of your comfort zone. You’d be surprised at what happens.
  7. Actually study more. We all despise it, but there is no feeling quite like “rajar el examen.”
  8. Ask them out for coffee. Do it before someone else does.
  9. Make mistakes! If you’re making mistakes then that means you’re actually doing something! That means that you are daring to do new things, to follow your desires, to live, to push yourself and to change your world. The worst that could happen is that you trip and fall down, but at Colegio that means that you’re going to graduate!

2017 is for many of us that promise of better times to come. 2016 was totally crazy, the world turned upside down everywhere. Here’s to hoping that the New Year will give you the chances, strength and power to pursue what you want. Seize your dreams and make them fully yours. Don’t forget to enjoy the little things: look at the sun as it sets, look at the full moon brightening up the skies and look at the hummingbird next to your window.

Think about what you want to do starting this January. Think about the changes you want to make and the new things you may try. Remember to be daring and step out of your comfort zone. I know that for my resolution I’ll be finding out who I am and who I will be.

“Hope smiles from the threshold of the year to come, whispering, ‘It will be happier’.” – Alfred Lord Tennyson

“And now we welcome the new year. Full of things that have never been.” – Rainer Maria Rilke
