It’s a new year and naturally, we all have a few, if not many, resolutions. Whether yours are new or simply the same ones from 2011, one of them is most likely to procrastinate a little less and achieve a little more. A key part of making your goals a reality is to stay motivated throughout the year and here’s how!

1. Always keep the bigger picture in mind

Remembering the reason why you’re doing what you’re doing and what you want to achieve by doing so, can help you through the difficult times when you question all your life choices. This helps you stay focused because, “why quit now that you’re that much closer to your goal”?

2. Don’t be afraid to seek support

If you feel particularly discouraged or don’t see a way to achieve your goals, get support from your family or friends.  In the case that it goes beyond that kind of help, then it might be wise for you to look for professional help. There’s no shame in asking for help.

3. Start with small goals that lead to bigger ones.

Use opportunities as stepping stones to improve yourself and reach the ultimate goal.

4. Establish a reward system/”Me Time”

It is very important to have some time to socialize and do what you enjoy. It is hard as a college student at times, but this might help you get things done faster so you can actually take some time off and do things you enjoy, like drawing, painting, writing, etc.

5. Practice self-care

It is crucial to take care of our mind and bodies, to stay healthy in order to be able to study and take on a semester at Colegio.  No, I will not preach about going to the gym everyday for an hour plus or sleeping for more than eight hours (not possible as a Colegio student), but at least it’s definitely not about how to survive drinking coffee and eating Ramen Noodles for five months. It’s all a matter of balance and remember that, health is wealth!
