“I have to wake up at 8AM and go to my politics class. Then I have work till 5PM and when I get home I have to do this week’s homework for French class and study for the Calculus test I have in three days”. Yep, this is something many of us can relate to and sometimes there is simply not enough time, let alone time for a social life! After a long time struggling on how to organize my time, be able to get my job done, get good grades, and have a healthy social life in college (‘cause this is a very important part of our lives, cultivating friendships and making unforgettable memories) I could come up with a plan.

First things first, you need to have a weekly schedule with your free hours and busy hours. You can buy either a big or small calendar and place it on your bedroom wall. Another option can be to use an old notebook as a daily to do list journal, this way you can check one by one the things you’ve done and it helps you to keep organized and also gives you this amazing feeling of accomplishment.

Now it’s time to establish a plan for your free hours and you need to include the time it will take to study and the diligences you may have. It is always better to do the college things first and, for no reason whatsoever, leave things to the last minute (this ain’t always easy, trust me I know, but just keep in mind that the sooner you finish things the more spare time you’ll have). For instance if your professor assigns an essay due next week, my recommendation is to start right away, you can organize your ideas and write a draft. This way you’ll have the hard part done and all it takes is to revise and print. Stressing won’t get you anywhere so remember to stay focused, to have your time well distributed and to always be determined to finish what you started, and I promise you’ll be fine.

HEADS UP: While doing homework or studying it is important to leave your phone at DO NOT DISTURB because getting distracted can happen too easily.

Do not count your free time until you finish your homework’s and studies. After finishing what you had planned you can then enjoy some real free time with your friends or Netflix.

Remember you will not always have free time, sometimes plans have to be canceled and college demands all your free time but that is just part of been a student.
