The end of the semester equals stress and nobody can deny it.

It’s inevitable, finals week is whispering in our ears. If the academic load is almost unbearable during a common semester, the burden of online classes makes it even more challenging.

Because taking the time to slow down stress levels is indispensable during this season, here are four ways to destress during finals:

Organize and prioritize

Taking time to organize and prioritize tasks is one of the smartest things you can do. Calendarize all of your deadlines and important dates. Split similar tasks into time blocks, prioritize assignments that are due earlier, and make a study plan you can easily follow. Make sure you add buffer time into your schedule; this is going to help you if something takes longer than expected or if other things come up.

Declutter your space

Studying in a cluttered space is not effective. Take 10 to 15 minutes daily to declutter your area and designate a place for all of your books and supplies. Seeing a clean surface can help your mind think better. Take advantage of that time and place scented candles or small objects that make you happy in your area.

Take time for yourself

Take some time to do things you like. Exercise, do yoga, or meditate; it helps to clear your mind and think better later on. Also, you can read or listen to your favorite music, do your skincare routine, or just lay down in your bed staring at the ceiling. Do what you feel is the right thing to do. It’s important to take a break and disconnect from assignments every now and then. Do not feel bad for doing it― it’s for your own physical and mental health.

Talk to family and friends

Do not hesitate to call or text family and friends when you feel overwhelmed with your work. Talking to others can help finals week feel manageable. Choose to spend some time with your loved ones; even just five minutes can improve your mood.

I know this semester was a challenge for everyone and that basically every week was a hell week, but this is not going to be forever. Strive to do the best you can and make sure you prioritize your health over everything else.

The countdown until the semester ends has begun. You can do it!
