You are doing GREAT.

It’s okay to take a nap, recharge, and still feel burned out. There has been an enormous amount of challenges laid at your feet, and regardless of the outcome, you still met those challenges. You’re under no obligation to function at your academic best while trying to mitigate the spread of a novel virus.

It’s tempting to compare yourself to others who seemingly are still functioning well, who still have a job and have a full schedule of classes. But they don’t see your behind-the-scenes, either. Nobody has been untouched by the events of the past year. It’s unreasonable to ask that you act like you haven’t been affected, either.

If you made high grades, I’m proud of you. If you made low grades, I’m proud of you. If you dropped out of school, I’m proud of you! You are doing the best thing for your situation, in the face of a million impossible choices.

If you are still dragging yourself towards that semester finish line, I’m proud of you! You are almost there! College classes may look a lot different than this time last year, but you’ve still stuck with it.

No matter your obstacles, remember to take care of yourself- drink water, do your laundry, write in your journal. Even when you don’t feel like it. Everyone is feeling burned out, even experienced professionals. 89% of college students reported experiencing stress and anxiety because of Covid-19 in Fall 2020. 1 in 4 had their depression get even worse.

You’re not the only one going through this, and there are tons of people out there who are rooting for you. Even if you’re just surviving a global pandemic, that’s enough.

You can do this!
