What a Lump of Salt Can Do For You

As we all start to enter the adult world, finding ways to distress is essential to making it through the week or even the day. Besides drinking a full bottle of wine to solve all of life’s problems, you can set your mood to relaxation through a simple glow of orangey pink.

This magical creation I am talking about is the Himalayan Salt Lamp. If you have one, you need to know there are more benefits to it than just providing mood-soothing light. If you do not have one, get one. You cannot claim a world of newfound bliss without it. 

I may be late to the salt party but it never hurts to finally jump right in and join. After realizing it would make a great addition to an empty shelf top next to my tapestry, I went for it. Little did I know that it was more than just decoration, the Himalayan salt can actually improve your health and air quality. With a buzzing world full of ways to make our overall life and wellness better, I thought this was a nice way to make a small change (without having to exercise)!

First things first, you still need to exercise if you want to see some pyhsical results. If you want to ease your mental health into a world where there is constant sunshine then this is an shorter and simpler lifestyle change. Secondly, the lamp is actually a block of salt. I dare you to lick it because you will get a full mouthful of salty goodness. Thirdly, they come in all shapes and sizes. I went for the “I just found a lump of salt and put a light bulb in it” vibe, but there are more structured and polished designs out there.

The first benefit is the lamp can purify the air. All the scientific talk about ions can be searched for further knowledge, but one thing that is known for sure is that the lamp has the ability to cause a reaction to increase serotonin in the body, relive stress (yay!), and improve daily energy. All these benefits are tastefully positive and are necessary to keep you motivated to take on the day. The illumination of the lamp is one of the most calming aspects. If you were ever afraid of the dark as a child (me) or still are, this acts as a soothing night-light.

Knowing my light is helping the air I breathe in my stuffy apartment is exciting. Just by sitting next to it I feel a cloud of calmness come over me. You might even start to feel some serious juju from it if you start passionately believing in its benefits. Good luck on the search to the right lamp for your room!
