How I Have Been Staying Motivated At The Gym

Consistency has always been my struggle when it comes to working out, but eventually, I became tired of starting over again and again and going through the same cycle every year. 2020 was the year that I decided there needed to be a change to my mindset and motivation. Now, being in 2022, I can proudly say that I work out daily and have been for the past two years. For others that are struggling with consistency, here are a few tips that altered my perspective.

  1. Get a membership. I find it easier to go to the gym than working out at home. The main push is to get yourself out of the house but once you are there, it is more motivating to get a solid workout in. You don’t realize the influence of other people around you has on you until you see what you are like when working out alone in your basement
  2. Having a partner to work out with. Some days I do enjoy working out alone but for the majority of my workouts, I find it best to have someone with me. This allows me to push my limits to see what I could really achieve. When going by myself, I tend to stay with the weights that I am comfortable with
  3. Make a personal, private Instagram account. This might seem silly but it has made a huge impact on my motivation. Whenever I am eating healthy, working out, or doing anything that involves a healthy lifestyle; I post it to that account with a cute caption. It is a private account and I have about 4 followers so the posts are for me. This allows me to look back to see my progress and how far I’ve come. I follow strictly fitness accounts so when I am feeling unmotivated, I will scroll through the feed to see others working out and that pushes me to go workout!

I know that these tips might not work for everyone but I have found them super helpful and my journey is still continuing. I have made goals for myself that I never thought would be possible. Now, I look forward to going to the gym everyday and the feeling of being strong and powerful is my burst of adrenaline!

My name is Madison Sullivan and I am from a small town in Connecticut called North Branford. I am a Business Management major with a minor in HMP and I am not sure exactly what I want to do when I graduate. My hobbies include reading when I have time, going to the gym, and playing with my dog, Buddy.
