Â
You may not have heard of these three amazing girls from the Queen Latifah Show. (Or, maybe you have, but you just can’t get enough.) Either way, we are so excited to feature Belissa Escobedo, Rhiannon McGavin, and Zariya Allen and all of their brillance.
A few weeks ago, the girls of “Get Lit” were invited to sit down with Queen Latifah, and discuss their views on what our society has become. However, instead of only having a typical sit-down interview, they gave a performance that floored the audience. Together, they performed a poem they titled “Somewhere in America,” and it truly makes you want to stop and think. The girls spoke out on corrupt education systems, as well as the faults they see that our society carries as a whole. We were so inspired and proud of the courage and intelligence of these girls, and how strongly they presented their case.Â
In their interview, they spoke on how the organization “Get Lit” inspired them to want to make an impact, and change the way things are viewed. They talked about how there is “power in poetry,” and using this as an outlet let’s them connect to something bigger in a way that makes them comfortable.
We are absolutely amazed by both the performance of Belissa, Rhiannon and Zariya, and who they are as individuals.Â
Great job, girls!Â
