Working towards a lifestyle that is truly benefitial in every aspect is very hard to achieve, espcecially when it seems like you don’t have the time for it, or simply don’t know where to begin. Here are a few simple tips on ways to improve your lifestyle and create a happier life.

1. Aroma Therapy

Essential oils are something that I have used in the past and LOVE them. Diffusors are relatively inexpensive and can be found at tons of stores. I use my diffusor when I want to relax and give myself a reboot while I’m meditating or doing yoga in my apartment. You can purchase different oils for different occasions. For example I love lavender oil right before bed. My favorite, though, is tee tree oil- it cleanses the air and creates a very relaxing space.

2. Tidy Up Your Space

My environment has a huge effect on my mental state. I cannot focus or be productive when my room or apartment is messy. Take 20 minutes or so a day to tidy up your space so that you are better able to focus and not worry about how much clutter you are surrounded by. Clear space=clear mind.

3. Replace Negative Thoughts with Positive Ones

This is something that I used to struggle with until I started working hard towards positive thinking. Every time I have a negative thought or feeling, I quickly realize it, and try to replace that same thought with a positive one. By practicing this technique, it helps your mental health overall, and creates a much happier life. Being positive has proven to have many health benefits and in general, opens up many opportunities for success.

4. Take Time to Create Habits You Have Wanted to Make

Scheduling time to do the things you love or things you have always wanted to try can greatly improve your quality of life. Take time out of each day to write, draw, paint, learn a language, read, or any other activity that you have been meaning to try. Start by focusing 15-30 minutes on each activity and increase your time when it best fits your schedule. Life is too short to be stressed, and any opportunity you can get to try new things, leads to a healthier and happier life.

5. Replace Unhealthy Food with Healthy Food

This can be harder, especially for college students. I know that I love junk food in moderation, but being overall conscious of what you are putting into your body can impact the way you live and how your body functions throughout the day. The tip I try my best to stick by is if I don’t understand an ingredient on the back of any food product, then I know I probably shouldn’t be eating it. Eating clean is the best way to go if you have the means to do so.

I hope these tips help you strive for a healthier lifestyle!
