As a college student, I can vouch that waking up early in the morning for classes is the last thing I want to do… I get it. But, it’s always nice to get your day started early and get things done so that you aren’t scrambling towards midnight trying to get that paper submitted. Here are a few tips and tricks on “how to become a morning person”:

1. Wake up at the same time everyday

I know, I know…waking up on a set schedule may seem a bit ridiculous and unrealistic. But I’m here to tell you…it’s not! This can be harder for us college students who go out late and come home in the early morning hours. However, whether you stay out late or hit the hay early, it’s a good idea to have a schedule and keep your body clock in sync so that getting up early becomes less of a hassle. A great tip that I personally find helpful is keeping your alarm clock (or phone) across the room so that you physically have to get up in the morning once it starts going off *ugh*. Getting up everyday around the same time can eventually allow you to wake up by yourself without an alarm clock. You can thank your body later for when you accidentally set your alarm for 7 p.m. instead of 7 a.m. but still wake up on time. ~I woke up like this~

2. Eat a balanced breakfast

I cannot stress how important is it to eat breakfast in the morning. Out of all of the tips, this one is the most crucial to get a good kick-start to your day and wake up with a boost of energy. Even eating something on-the-go while you’re running out the door can suffice in order to wake you up. Fruit and/or fruit juice has been proven to help you energize faster and longer than caffeine, so if you’re still feeling groggy in the morning, maybe it’s time to try something else than coffee *cringe* (I know, it’s hard!).

3. Workout in the morning

If you have time in the morning, get up and move around! Exercise is known to get your blood flow going and wake you up faster in the morning. Plus, it’s a great way to stay fit in college! Having someone you can go to the gym with and keep you accountable can be a good way to make working out a routine activity. That motivation to get fit can really help you get up and get going on your day and look like you have your stuff together #Boss. Even if you workout in your apartment along with a tutorial on YouTube, you’re still putting in effort to get energized.

Of course, all of this takes time and practice. So even doing two of these tips three times a week and working up from there can make a huge difference in how you feel about waking up early and help you become a morning person.

Good Luck!
