Stones and their Healing Properties

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UK chapter.

Pretty much any stone, rock or crystal you can find has some sort of myth surrounding its healing properties. Crystal healing is a pseudoscientific alternative to medicine. It uses stones and crystals, like jasper, citrine, quartz, opals, etc. These stones are used to heal people, mostly through the soul and sometimes they are believed to heal physical things such as heartburn or mental health things such as anxiety or depression.

I’ve recently gotten into healing stones and using them in order to help with anxiety and a way to balance my moods. I wouldn’t say that there will be definite results overnight but over the last few weeks I’ve noticed that I’m a tad more grounded and calmed than I usually tend to be, especially with stressful situations.

Personally, I carry an amethyst stone around my neck and have an opal ring in order to curb anxiety and encourage creativity – two things I’ve been struggling with. I think everyone should know about stones and how awesome they can be, so I’m gonna share six healing stones and their healing properties. Remember, none of the benefits described below are proved by any scientific studies.

Amethyst

Amethyst is believed to be a natural tranquilizer, meaning it relieves stress, soothes mood imbalances and curbs anger, fear and anxiety. It is also believed to get rid of grief, encourage a spiritual consciousness and enhance psychic abilities. It also helps boost immune systems, clears skin and elevates headaches.

Opal

This stone is believed to intensify emotions and release inhibitions, encouraging freedom and independence. It also enhances creativity and induces mystical visions. It can also enhance one’s creativity and originality.

Red Jasper

Red Jasper is seen as a stone that symbolizes protection. It also neutralizes radiation and forms of environmental pollution. It is supposed to ground and center energy and bring problems to light in order to solve them.

Black Onyx

This stone is also a protection stone. It is believed to transform negative energy and prevent the draining of personal energy. This stone also helps someone develop emotional and physical strength, stamina and helps combat confusion and grief.

Aventurine

This stone has physical healing properties. It helps with blood pressure, metabolism and cholesterol. It also has an anti-inflammatory effect on the skin. It helps with allergies, migraine and soothes the eyes when they are strained. It is also believed to help with sinuses, the lungs and heart.
