Start Your Journey With Self-Care Today!

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UIC chapter.

Self-care is any intentional action you take for your health and well-being. I first heard of self-care from one of my favorite bloggers, Alex Elle. Some of the things she does for her self-care is reading, praying, and journaling. Alex is one of many in a community to promote self-care. As college students, we often find our days becoming chaotic and stressful. We don’t focus on our sleep or we don’t eat right at times. By practicing self-care, you’re focusing on being the happiest healthiest version of you.

Focusing on working and earning good grades had caused me to neglect myself. I hardly ever got more than 6 hours of sleep, I secluded myself from other people, and I ate horribly. We usually don’t notice how our lack of self-care is taking a toll on us emotionally and physically. When I started journaling this summer I realized how bad I was treating myself because of how good I started to feel. For me, journaling helps me to focus on my feelings and aspirations. I give myself more attention than I would have before.

Everyone decides on different things for their self-care practices. Choose whatever you want for your own, as long as it makes you feel good and betters your health.
