Music Blog: The Gift of Gratis Music

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UIC chapter.

I challenge you, readers, to name something more gratifying than free music. How about a whole website devoted to free, downloadable music? Here’s the catch–it’s completely legal. Oh wait, that’s not a catch.

From singles to full-length albums, NoiseTrade thrives on new sounds, seasonal specials, and rare recordings and remixes. The wonderful people at NoiseTrade showcase categories like New & Notable, Top Downloads and Most Recent and even name tons of artists similar to those featured to help you navigate. After simply joining their mailing list, the entire virtual library becomes “fare” game. However, you still have the opportunity to tip an artist and monetarily communicate your appreciation. Now that’s a Christmas miracle!

Perfect for yourself or music lovers you’re gifting, you simply have to share the link. Cheers to the cheapest but “chillest” gift you’ll give this Christmas.

I’ll start you off with a holiday recommendation–a chilling, electronic rendition of The First Noel by budding indie band Kye Kye. If you like Chvrches or M83, enjoy Christmas tunes, or have an open ear–check the links below!

Meaghan craves music almost as much as a good cup of coffee or a bagel smothered with cream cheese. Therefore, her most significant contribution to HerCampus arises once a week via her "Music Blog" section. Through this column, Meaghan hopes to inform and excite readers, introducing them to a variety of new music and music-related topics. Although difficult to decipher her crystal ball's contents, she would love to be working towards an outlet that combines design, writing, music, fashion, art and entertainment in the future. Obsessions also include the color pink and quoting her favorite films.
