How To Land Your Perfect Internship

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UIC chapter.

There’s no better way to figure out what you want to do with your life than by having an internship! Internships let you experience the workplace environment and help you figure out whether this is the career you want to pursue or not. Summer is a great time to have an internship, so here are a few tips to help you land the perfect one!

Check websites like indeed.com or internships.com

Companies are always posting new internship opportunities so it’s important to keep up with whatever internships are posted. Websites like indeed.com and internships.com are pretty easy to navigate through and let you see companies that are posting internship opportunities in your area.

Write or clean up your resume

Before you find an internship, it’s important that you have a resume prepared. Depending on where you apply, you should gear the skills you list on your resume towards the requirements listed on the internship application. For example, if you’re applying to intern with a magazine, you should include your writing experience on your resume.

Have some writing samples

It’s always important that you have some writing samples on hand that have already been checked by either a professor or a peer. Many internships will likely want to see your writing abilities or any projects that you have completed, in order to see your capabilities as a potential intern.

Submit your application before the deadline

It’s important to be aware of the deadlines. Different companies and corporations have different internship deadlines, so make sure you keep track of when your application is due.
