Nick Gomez is a 19-year-old freshmen majoring in marketing. Nick spends his time working at Belmont Army and Nike, as well as being very active member in Sigma Alpha Mu Fraternity. Nick is this week’s campus celebrity for creating and running his own clothing line, Golden Apparel. Check out @nickygolden on instagram to see all the new upcoming products!

HC (HerCampus): How did your business start? What piqued your interest in clothing?

NG (Nick Gomez): I’ve always had this connection with fashion. I collect a lot of shoes, which sparked my interest in fashion so I started my own clothing line. The beginning of my senior year of high school I started saving all my money. My line was officially launched on  9/27/13.

HC: Where did the name come from?

NG: Golden is from everything. It’s from a song, “Golden” and the main phrase was “Stay Gold.” Then I also thought of The Outsiders, “Stay Golden, Ponyboy.” I also made the logo myself so it makes it that much more special to me.

HC: What kind of apparel do you sell? Do you plan on expanding?

NG: Our first order was just t-shirts, which we made a $900 profit. Right now we’re just doing t-shirts, tank tops, women’s fit shirts for the summer. We plan on expanding in the future, but right now we’re just sticking to t-shirts.

HC: Is there anyone who inspired you, or helped you make your business what it is today?

NG: My best friend from back home inspires me. We’re basically the same person and both have the same interest in fashion. We had a great idea and both still fund the business together today.

HC: How do you market or advertise your business?

NG: We have our own website and market through word of mouth and promo off our personal Facebooks.

HC: Where do you see your business going from here? Do you have any goals for the future?

NG: Right now we are talking to multiple stores about carrying Golden Apparel. I work at Belmont Army so we’re trying to get in there. So far we’re in touch with 4 stores, they want to see how our summer collection sells to see if they want to buy our items. For the future I hope for Golden to be in multiple stores.

HC: Are you involved in any clubs or organizations on campus?

NG: I’m a member of Sigma Alpha Mu Fraternity. They support me so much and at the end of the day, I know they support me and love me deep down inside.

HC: As a freshman, what do you hope to accomplish before your graduate?

NG: I really want Golden to be held in different stores and want to see it more around campus.

HC: Where do you see yourself/business in 10 years?

NG: I see myself hopefully traveling around the world with my brand, having it in multiple stores over seas, and having my brand take me places. In 10 years I can be Dolce and Gabbana!

HC: If you had a celebrity best friend, who do you think it would be and why?

NG: Channing Tatum because when we go out, girls will swarm and I can be like, “Hey, what’s up?”

As of now her major is undeclared, however she would like to major in marketing and finance. When she is not on campus, she is working at her internships, going to concerts, hanging out with friends, and enjoying life as it comes. In the future she hopes to go into some sort of public relations career, such as event planning, but also keeps her options open.
