Learn how to love yourself first.

In the words of RuPaul, “If you can’t love yourself, how in the hell you gonna love someone else?” Love starts from the inside out. I feel as though in the past, I kind of have overlooked my own self-care. But it’s never too late to start taking care of you.

Check in with those you care about.

Sometimes, we can be busy. It can be hard to keep in touch with others as we all have our own lives, commitments, etc. So, try to keep contact. It helps to know others are there. In the past, I myself have tried to get better with checking in, especially after periods where I choose to disconnect.

Know your boundaries.

Every healthy relationship has its bounds. It can be hard to maintain a long and HEALTHY relationship (friend, family, significant other). Set your limits for what you will and will not tolerate and it will help you in your discernment of those who are caring about you.

Make spending time with loved ones a priority.

Spending time with friends and family should not be considered unproductive. It is honestly one of the most soothing forms of self-love known to man. Hanging out with people you care about is form of self care just like meditation and therapy, and I’m sick of acting like it’s not.

So, know that I have given you some tips. I wish you all a Happy Valentine’s Day.
