Feeling PINK, confidence. Most of the time, it’s common sense to feel beautiful in every way (it is of course ;D), and other times, a planet is in retrograde taking all your happiness. As we enter our twenties, where adulthood becomes serious along with new experiences that tend to come with anxiety and bits of discomfort. Having a little something special for yourself makes you feel ready for future opportunities and commitments. Lingerie, underwear, and/or intimate attire can either be an overlooked or overwhelming part of the day. Whether you’re just throwing something on or doing your best to create a lovely surprise, a sense of confidence under the surface is always treasured.

Victoria Secret is known for the atmosphere it creates for their customers. Both sultry and sneaky, Victoria Secret is infamous for its mature fantasy. As tempting as it is, sometimes, one isn’t ready to go all the way; a flirty appeal might be enough. In Fall of 2002, Victoria Secret announced the creation of PINK, a brand focused on tweens, teens, and young adults. Collaborating with over 100  universities for their “Collegiate Collection” including branded merch as well as campus representatives.

PINK is for the growing girls who are just starting to understand their femininity. For the cuties with a love for polka dots, the fine and fit fems in need of athleisure, and ladies with an edge looking for cheetah prints, there’s something for everyone.

Although, around 2018 is when a turn towards more athletic wear was noticed. The vibrant patterns started to disappear as a more muted look became popular. Many view this as PINK forgetting themselves while others see it as a necessary evolution.

This smaller lense of focus can be a bit jarring for customers, especially ones looking for the vibrant niche nightwear that PINK offers without reaching towards competitors. As the PINK dog was phased out, so was the fantasy Victoria’s Secret was known for. Their past CEO’s regressive views only drew supporters farther away. Transphobia and fatphobia “fit into the fantasy” but the collective doesn’t care about the male gaze anymore. The brand was left in an awkward spot about what their future looked like and if their fantasy was realistic.

We see this most drastically in their fashion shows. Ending their iconic annual evenings in 2019, following the resignation of the male CEO’s ignorant comments. Victoria Secret and PINK tried to follow trends in simplicity and while in good faith they lost the magic that we were drawn towards.  As well as the Y2K resurgence and shift into maximalist outfits and vivid colors, both brands faded out of popular culture.

Since 1995, Victoria Secret has hosted a fashion show every winter with whimsical wings and themes. It’s a tantalizing event that includes the year’s hottest musical guests, like Rihanna, Destiny’s Child, Harry Styles, Hozier and Bruno Mars. The other worldly event kept supporters warm during the colder months. Since PINK’s launch, they’ve had charming segments with artists like Justin Beiber and Ariana Grande serenading the angels as they showcase the upcoming collections.

Since the brand’s comeback, they’ve made an effort to celebrate the parts that made their brand loved by many around the world. The Victoria’s Secret team has worked to make it known that the magic is in fondness of femininity. Mixing its original vibrancy with current trends. PINK has done its part to get back to the consumers it’s known for and cares for, rebooting their PINK Campus Rep program, coming to college campus, and putting the play back in lingerie!
