One of the most exciting weeks for UH students is almost here: Homecoming Week! It will be from October 13 to October 18. Exciting, right? And the closing event for this memorable week will be the Homecoming Football Game on October 18. Whether this will be your first or last homecoming game, I thought that it would be a great idea to share some tips on how to enjoy this day to the fullest.
OUTFITS
Homecoming game day is the perfect occasion to embrace your school spirit, participate in the various activities, and, of course, express your style. For game day, you should opt to wear comfortable clothes and shoes so that you can enjoy the most while also feeling cozy and staying stylish.
Although fall has officially started, we’re still experiencing fiery temperatures here in Houston, so opt for lightweight and breathable pieces. The main colors are red and white, but you can let your creativity flow and still put together cute, on-theme looks with touches of blue and black. You can use unique and customized pieces, sequins, fun accessories, cute boots or sneakers, and much more. Embrace your sense of fashion and have fun on this iconic game day.
TAILGATE
Being part of a tailgate might be one of the most fun activities of a game day, especially during homecoming week (since this is when school spirit really seems to shine), so if you can, join your fellow students outside the stadium. However, this game is unlike your usual football game day experience. The tailgate will take place in the morning, right before the 11 am game, a bit unexpected, but it will certainly be fun as usual.
You will be able to eat, drink (if you are 21 or older), dance, meet new people, play games, and enjoy the overall homecoming spirit. You can go with friends or with family (including children) to the Party On The Plaza or UH College of Pharmacy Homecoming Tailgate, for example, to enjoy this pre-game celebration. Make sure to get there early to avoid parking issues if you are driving, so that you can enjoy the tailgate from the beginning.
THE GAME match
This year’s UH Homecoming Game will be in the morning, at 11 a.m. in TDECU Stadium against the University of Arizona, and everything indicates that it will be epic. I believe the moment most of us are expecting is the coronation of the Homecoming King and Queen during the game’s halftime, and it might be the highlight of the game. Both teams are known for being very competitive, so be prepared for the good energy and euphoria during the game.
The stadium also has a clear bag policy that you can review before going to the game. I usually carry my life in my purse (haha), so checking beforehand helps me decide what exactly to bring with me. And, do not forget to cheer for our team!
POST-GAME ACTIVITIES
Since this year’s Homecoming Game will end in the afternoon, you can still enjoy the rest of the day by doing something fun. Whether it is going to an after-party later on the day, going to the movies, or even catching a breeze in a park (because the weather has been pleasant lately), it can be a good way of ending your day on a better note. Here are some great activities also happening on October 18: The Cultural Society – Live Orchestra Hip-Hop, Houston Filipino Street Festival 2025, or Monster Jam. Enjoy!
Homecoming happens only once a year, so show your school pride and have fun. Go Coogs!
