Growing up, Emily Nguyen was a tomboy who dug holes and buried crayons instead of playing with Barbie dolls. Who would have thought that she would become the president of Asian-American interest sorority Sigma Phi Omega?

Emily, a creative writing major, became interested in Sigma Phi Omega after witnessing her friend rush the sorority’s Epsilon chapter.

Sigma Phi Omega focuses on raising awareness for domestic violence through fundraisers and volunteering. The sorority also works with other campus organizations like Frontier Fiesta and multicultural Greek fraternities and sororities.

Emily is also the treasurer of UH’s Vietnamese Student Association. This year, she helped them raise $5,000 for Kids Without Borders—a nonprofit organization dedicated to assisting children in third world countries.

The Vietnamese Student Association has donated their time and money to helping orphaned children learn skills that would help them to live independently.

In her spare time, Emily enjoys baking, DIY projects and exercising with her mother. Her quirky personality makes her a great leader, regardless of the situation.

Thutrang, also known as Mimi, is a student at the Conrad N. Hilton College majoring in Hotel and Restaurant Management with an emphasis in Event Management. Ideally, she likes to explore in positive magnitudes whether it consists of social interactions or spiritual guidance. She is an open-minded person who is more than likely to find your sense of taste in music, conspiracies, clothes, dreams, study habits, etc. inspiring.
"Writing means sharing. It's part of the human condition to want to share things - thoughts, ideas, opinions."
