7 Tips to Help Boost Your GPA

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UH chapter.

As much as we don’t like to think about it, our grade-point average is very important. It determines whether or not we get a scholarship, internship or even graduate. Juggling a job and school can be difficult and it’s so easy to let those little numbers slip. We understand, it happens to the best of us, so here are some tips that will help you boost your GPA.

1. If you don’t have a planner, get one!

I can’t tell you how many times I have bought a planner only to write in it twice. But after using a pallner for a year, I can’t imagine not having one. A planner helps you stay organized so you won’t forget any assignments.

2. Write a weekly to-do list.

You may be thinking, “Isn’t that what my planner is for?” Well, yes. Many of us can get by with just writing in and then looking back at our planners. My special suggestion here is to write a to-do list and hang it up in the place you do all your work so you can be sure you won’t forget anything. I write in my planner to have a reference, then I write my to-do list and hang it up in my living room. Once I finish an assignment, I cross it off the list.

3. Rewrite your notes.

This will come in handy if you write a little messy during class. Having neat and organized notes makes studying so much easier. Rewriting your notes can also help you memorize things.

4. Talk to your professors.

If you feel like you are having a hard time in class, talk to your professors. Take the time to arrange a meeting with them, don’t wait until the day before the test. Your professors have been in your shoes before and are there to help you succeed.

5. Study beforehand.

Study in advance, not just the day before the test. Cramming the day before a test + not getting enough sleep = not such a good grade. Studying beforehand will help you become more familiar with the material and you’ll be less likely to forget it.

6. Eliminate all distractions while doing schoolwork.

It’s as simple as that.

7. Take time to recharge.

Although grades are super important, taking time for yourself is essential. Burning yourself out will take away all of your energy and will to study. Take a breather, work out or just do something you want to do for you.
