5 Questions That’ll Make Tonight’s Date One of Many!

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UH chapter.

Congratulations! You’ve passed step one of not spending your Friday night in your giraffe onesie while watching romantic movies. You got a date!

Now here comes the hard part…what are you going to talk about on the date? Whether a date is a success or a failure is all based off of the type of conversation that was had.

The last thing you want is to have dinner with a guy and get stuck conversing about how soft the dinner rolls are.

Here’s a  compiled list of the top five questions to ask on a first date to get the conversation flowing.

1. If you could start college over what would you have done differently?

This question is guaranteed to get the conversation going for at least 10 minutes. You will learn about the mistakes they have made and the lessons they have learned. Also, if he has had an eventful time in college, you will hear some pretty interesting stories involving beer pong and Blackboard assignments.

2. What character would you play in your favorite movie? Why?

You will learn more about the things he likes as well as to what kind of person he is. Asking this will also grant you insight into seeing what role he could play in your love life. Will he be the romantic interest you ride off into the sunset with or will he be an extra in front of the green screen?

3. If you had to listen to the same song for 24 hours, what would it be?

If someone would listen to a specific song for 24 hours, then that means there is a reason why they love that song. You both could end liking the same band and then you already will have an idea for the second date…concert!

4. What are the top three things that are the most important to you?

This allows you to see what he values and it allows him to see what you value. If his family is in his top three, then that could lead to a story about the family reunion when Uncle Willie got drunk and ate all of the pies.

5. What made you want to go on a date with me?

Don’t be scared to ask this question. This is your opportunity to find out what it is about you that your date likes. If he says that it is because you’re beautiful, then ask him what about you makes him see you as beautiful. By the time he finishes answering this question you will be blushing and the conversation will be flowing into the next date!

If you ask these questions you may end up trading in your rom-com movies in for a love story of your own.
