5 of the Most Intriguing Facts About Sex

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UH chapter.

Sex is an interesting topic and there are some facts that you would never know about. That is why I’ve compiled a list of the most interesting sex facts that dive deeper than the curriculum of your middle school sex education teacher.

1. A Part of Your Brain Shuts Down During Sex

As smart as you may think you are, you are not that smart during the hanky panky (yes, I said it). That is because your lateral orbitofrontal cortex shuts down during an orgasm.

2. Women & Men Lose The V-Card Young

The law requires you to be 18 in order for you to get into a club and 21 to order a shaken martini. One thing that the law may not have anticipated is the age that people lose virginity. The average female loses her virginity at 17.4 while the average male loses his at 16.9.

3. Women Burn Less Calories During Sex

There are more ways to burn calories than the traditional treadmill. Sex is a great calorie burning workout…well for men at least. During a normal sex session men burn 100 calories, while women burn 69 calories.

4. Sex Regulates Your Period

Periods can be a time of irregularity, and there are shelves of pills that claim they can fix it. Before you head to your nearest pharmacy, sex may be able to fix this problem. Sex releases hormones and that helps regulate your period.

5. Americans Want Coffee Over Sex

Everybody loves a good latte, especially americans. There was a study done of 7,455 people, and over half of them were women. The results of the study said that americans prefer coffee over sex.
