To Feed a Monster—Foods That Will Satisfy Period Cravings

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UGA chapter.

It’s unfortunately that time of the month. Your Aunt Flow is visiting and shark week has begun—code red! If you are like most of us, your cravings might be driving you crazy. You are most likely in your luteal phase of your menstrual phase, or the time from the 15th day to the 28th day. Different girls have different cravings: salty, sweet, spicy, etc. What the body really is craving is the magnesium; sugar & carbohydrates; and salt & water of those snacks. My goal is to give you a list of a variety of snacks, both healthy/homemade and less than healthy to satisfy that hunger monster.

Salty/Spicy

Unhealthy Snacks

The perfect snacks that may not be the best for your body include, but are not limited to:

  • Loaded french fries
  • Pretzels
  • Takis
  • Flamin’ Hot Cheetos
  • Salt & Vinegar Chips
  • Smartfood White Cheddar Cheese Popcorn

Healthy Snacks and Recipes

Some of these can either be bought in store, or you can make them at home!

Sweet

Unhealthy Snacks

Arguably the most unhealthy category, yet so delicious.

  • Chocolate bars/candies
  • Gummy bears
  • Donuts
  • Cookies
  • Brownies
  • Cake

Healthy Snacks and Recipes

Not all chocolate is completely bad for you!

Alright gals, that’s the end of this guide on taming the beast that is your inner cravings. Remember to eat what you want because in the end it’s your body and only you decide what to do with it.
