5 Little Ways to Practice Self-Care in the Midst of Your Busy Schedule

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UGA chapter.

With your days growing busier by the second, self care can be difficult to prioritize. You have a full course load, work, the endless search for internship/jobs, and somehow finding time to do things you like to do. Some days it just seems like you have a never ending to-do list. Unfortunately, when we get busy, self care falls to one of our last priorities. In the coming days, it is highly encouraged that you take at least an hour a day to partake in an activity you like instead of another thing you have to knock off your to-do list.

1. Take a long shower

A long, hot shower can do wonders for your stress and feelings, giving you a handle on your life. Taking a shower allows you time to yourself and time to think through your problems. I don’t know about you, but I do some of my best thinking in the shower.

2. Always make sure you get enough sleep

This may seem small, but the amount of sleep you get has a huge impact on almost every area in your life. If you never get enough sleep, you’ll walk through life in a zombie-like state, never completing everything to your full potential. Do yourself a favor and get some much needed rest. With the amount of tasks you complete in a day, you deserve it.

3. Read a book for fun

We read all day for school about subjects that only mildly interest us. Sometimes, you just got to put down your textbook and pull out a novel. Books provide us with so many things: they’re entertainment, an escape from our every day lives and so much more. It’s truly worthwhile to crack one open every once and awhile.

4. Eating healthily

This one is definitely easier said than done. On the bright side, it’s incredibly easy to fit this one into your busy life. You’ve got to eat sometime, right? It’s amazing how making this one small choice can lead to you having more energy and a more positive outlook on life. Try it out! The worse that can happen is that you go back to your old ways.

5. Make time for a quick work out

Working out on the regular is one of the best ways to practice self-care. Not only do you become healthier as a result, but you can also work through stress and release good endorphins. You don’t have to start out by going to the gym every single day of the week. You can take it slow and slowly work up to exercising as much as you desire to.

So practice self love on the regular, because we don’t want you to get to the point where you’re sad and overwhelmed and don’t now how to deal with it!
