Girlboss Radio: The Girl Power Podcast of Your Dreams

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UFL chapter.

Girlboss Radio is a podcast that’s like coffee with a friend. It’s filled with lots of laughing, funny voices, even some burps, and it’s totally relatable — except for that friend is a high power C-level executive or a founder of a multimillion dollar company.

Girlboss Radio is a weekly podcast where Sophia Amoruso sits down and has a comfortable chat with some of America’s most successful lady entrepreneurs. Some of her guests include Brit Morin, founder of Brit + Co, Janet Mock, trans rights advocate and author, Whitney Wolfe, founder of Bumble, and more. If you recognize Sophia’s name, it’s probably because she wrote  Girl Boss, a book on female entrepreneurship, and she founded the clothing brand Nasty Gal.

Sophia invites people into her old closet, now podcast studio, and chats with them about how they achieved their success starting with their very first job. By the first episode, I was hooked. Very rarely do you get to hear such prominent women in power speak, and even more rarely are they as comfortable as they are on her show.

On the podcast you get to hang out with women who have graced the cover of Forbes and even created brand new sectors of business; as they laugh and discuss some of their early struggles. It’s a chance to really understand what it takes to achieve your dreams and shows you that not all paths to success are the same. One of the podcasts featured Amel Monsur, the current Executive Creative Director at Vice Media, who said sometimes your “big break” comes when you’ve been out of a job and decide to take a chance yourself or make your own opportunity.

Next time you’re looking for some new inspiration or even just something to listen to in between class, check out Girlboss Radio. Sophia does a great job of asking questions for the listener, making sure you’re included in the dialogue. It’s filled with solid advice from women who have mastered their hustle for women who are embarking on their own. Find it on Spotify and iTunes.
