4 Ways to Start Spring Early

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UEA chapter.

Winter has been upon us for too long and despite our extreme excitement for snow and winter fashion in October; the novelty has truly worn off by mid February. There are no more winter festivities to look forward to and speaking for all collegiettes, we are sick and tired of our perfectly blow-dried hair becoming a frizzy mess the minute we step outside.

This week for the first time in months, there has been a glimmer of hope: Sunshine has been spotted on UEA Campus. However, seeing as British weather is notoriously turbulent and unreliable, the Her Campus UEA team have compiled a small list of suggestions to escape winter and to speed up the arrival of spring!

1) Decorate your room with fresh flowers

Fresh flowers never fail to put anyone in a spring like mood and to brighten up a student house, no matter how grotty it is. Her Campus UEA personally recommends blossominggifts.com. Not only do they have a wide selection of breathtakingly beautiful bouquets, they are offering the HC readers (all of you) a 30% discount code that does not expire!! This means that you can use this discount for Mother’s Day, a friend’s birthday or just to brighten up your room, no matter when the date is.

The Her Campus UEA Head Office received this stunning flower arrangement, ‘The High Tea Bouquet’, with a complimentary box of luxurious praline chocolates. We really cannot recommend this site enough, a beautiful addition to any room, and best of all, it comes pre-arranged and cut.

2) Swap your scarf for a pair of sunglasses

Even if the weather is still chilly, the small intervals of sunshine make sunglasses an absolute must. Not only are winter sunglasses an on point fashion trend sported by the likes of Victoria Beckham and Anna Wintour, but also just having a pair of sunnies in our handbags makes us feel that bit more spring-like and sexy (not to mention they’re a life saver if you need to pin your hair back!).

3) Substitute hot drinks for cold drinks

Winter is all about the hot drinks: tea, coffee, hot chocolate, eggnog, mulled wine…you name it, we drink it non-stop in the cold climate. Hot drinks warm us up, give us a bit of comfort and make us feel winter-y. Substituting one of the many cups of tea (that you should be drinking daily as a true Brit), for a cold refreshment such as a Hive fruit smoothie, will not only mean you’ll be getting all of your five a day in one hit, but you will also feel so much more spring-like and energised.

4) Opt for a more fresh faced look

We’ve been sporting berry lips, maxi brows and thick black lashes for months now. The end of February means the time to shake it up and to give our make up bags a spring clean. In order to feel less wintery and to escape the seasonal blues, try the natural, healthy look instead. Opt for a BB cream or a tinted moisturiser rather than a heavier foundation, and perfect the ‘barefaced’ look with subtle eye make up and a dewy primer. Naturally wavy, tousled hair and a fresh face can do wonders for ridding yourself of winter boredom and prompting spring to start early.
