You start packing your luggage. You slowly start to realize that your flight is right around the corner and you begin to feel your heart drop. It slowly climbs out of your chest and the fear of the unknown overwhelms you. Panic no more and tell your brain to live life, as I have some easy tricks to travel, that will help you feel totally at ease, no matter where you go.

Be a boss and be prepared!

You know what you need when you go to the mall – your keys, purse and phone, right? Now to feel most comfortable navigating through an airport, keep a passport holder. They are cute, convenient stress-free carriers that contain everything you need to control your experience. Got no international sim-card? Wifi is in every universal airport. Note that wifi is so incredible that airlines include various package deals to allow you to stay in contact with your loved ones while binge watching Big Bang Theory and drinking the best wine the sky has to offer.

Assemble an adventurer

Journeying to a new place can cause you to stay close to a familiar face. If so, bring one aboard. You will find that being with that special someone can be the perfect shoulder to sleep on the aeroplane and who doesn’t love a good selfie-taker?

Make your own momento

A reminder that life is not as scary as you think it will be is always a great idea to carry with you, whether you are travelling or not. This could be a parent’s piece of jewellery, that religious object or even your most comfy pillow that smells and feels like home. This reminder will be your safety net.

Trust your tunes

It has been proven that music has many calming effects. According to BBC, music has the supernatural ability to reduce your blood pressure and heart rate. Trust your favourite soft pop mix and allow Lewis Calpadi, Alessia Cara, and many others to ease your soul.  Other sounds that your ears might enjoy are meditation and yoga applications such as Calm and Headspace which are the most popular applications available on any device for free!

The natural necessity

Don’t forget to breathe. Breathing is not as easy as Julia Roberts makes it seem in Eat Pray Love (2010). You can learn a breathing technique to keep as much oxygen to the brain as you can. This will help you prevent those heavy walls closing in. Celebrity doctor, and now Instagram influencer, Dr Oz, explains that there are breathing shortcuts to help you in times of anxiety. This is known as the 4-7-8 breathing technique. The steps are the following and need to be repeated no less than four times:

– Lay your tongue in a position that rests behind your front teeth and against the ridge.

– Make a ‘whoosh’ sound through slowly exhaling all that fear.

– Inhale as deep as you can through your nose, while keeping your mouth closed for four seconds.

– Hold your breath for seven seconds.

– Lastly, release this breath with a ‘whoosh’ through your mouth for at least seven seconds.

With these five tricks of the trade, you will be travelling with an easy mind, heart and maybe even dream about that Pina-Colada along the sandy beach of your favourite destination. Your journey can finally start today!
