This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UCSD chapter.

If any of you have are familiar with The Kite Runner, you might be surprised to find out the author, Khaled Hosseini, is a licensed doctor and went to UCSD for medical school. Hosseini was born in Kabul, Afghanistan in 1965.  He moved to Iran in 1970 with his family since his father was an ambassador.  He returned to Kabul within that year, only to move to Paris three years when his father got a new position. Unfortunately, he and his family were unable to return to Afghanistan because Saur Revolution in 1978 so in 1980 they came to the US seeking political asylum. They settled down in San Jose, CA.

Hosseini went to Santa Clara University and got his BS in Biology. And finally he made his way to San Diego enrolling and, subsequently, earning his MD from UC San Diego, School of Medicine. He is most notable for his literary work for titles like: The Kite Runner, A Thousand Splendid Suns, and And the Mountains Echoed. He writes compelling tales that incorporate the socio-political and personal struggles of people in Afghanistan. I highly recommend his works!!
