What’s a Juul and Why Do I Keep Seeing It on Campus?

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UCSB chapter.

Chances are you’ve seen students with this strange usb looking device somewhere on campus, whether it is in the library or on the way to class. The Juul is an electronic cigarette that has risen in popularity and can be seen on college campuses across the nation. This device has been labeled the “iPhone of e-cigs,” and the smoking alternative different to all other vapes and e-cigs. It is compact, satisfying and feels like the real thing. The Juul is a healthier alternative to cigarettes and students all over the nation seem to be moving toward this new option.

1. The starter kit is $49.99

The starter kit is around $49.99 and comes with a Juul device, 4 pods, a usb charger and 1 year warranty. After buying the device, you buy refill pods online or at a convenience store.

2. There are lots of flavors to choose from!

There are 5 different pod flavors that range from fruity to minty. The 5 flavors are mango, mint, fruit medley, virginia tobacco and creme brulee. Creme brulee and mint are fan favorites!

3. It charges on your laptop!

The Juul is so inconspicuous that you can charge it on your laptop with it’s sleek magnetic usb charger. Just plug it into the side of your laptop for an hour and your juul will be fully charged!

4. There are no buttons!

The Juul is so sleek that it doesn’t even have any buttons! It is supposed to mimic the size and feel of a real cigarette. Just tap on it twice to check the battery level indicated by a light.

5. The Juul uses nicotine salts

The Juul pods are filled with natural nicotine salts that give the sensation of smoking.

Hi, Collegiettes! I'm Carmen, a Communication major at University of California, Santa Barbara and one of two Campus Correspondents for UCSB. I would love to one day work in either fashion, food, tech, financial services or philanthropy. My dream is to find a job that somehow combines several of those elements. Until I get there, I'll be munching on copious amounts of Trader Joe's dried mango, jamming out to my man, Frank Sinatra, and focusing on creating intriguing content! If you like my writing, talk to me. ;)
