How To Make You and Your Home Feel Like Fall Even Though It Still Feels Like Summer Outside

Do you like changing with the seasons? Well here are some fall recipes and decoration ideas to help you make the transition!

1. Flower Garlands

What you’ll need:

  • Fake flowers of your choosing (I personally got mine from the dollar store)
  • Hot glue gun (They’re $4 at Michaels!)
  • A pair of scissors
  • Some tacks to pin your new creations to the wall!

These are SO easy to make! Fake flowers are normally sold in little bunches of about 5-6 flowers. In order to separate them, all you’re going to need a pair of scissors or pruners! Each flower should also have fake leaves attached. Go ahead and leave them on as it adds to the effect and will come in handy later! I made these at home and used a pair of pruners to cut through the flower wire, but you can’t exactly do that with a pair of elementary school scissors. It’s okay if that’s all you have though! What you can do is bend the flower back and forth until you feel the wire snap, then take your scissors to cut the plastic green covering the wire and voila! You have successfully severed your flowers. Don’t worry if the end looks ugly because it’s going to be glued into the center of another flower.

After separating all your flowers, turn your glue gun on. While it’s warming up, take all your flowers and line them up how you want them to be. Take your glue gun and dab just a little bit in the center pollen area of a flower and then take another and place the stem in the middle of the glue! Let it sit and harden before adding more flowers because it’s too difficult to keep gluing and attaching along the same strand.

After completing pairs, take the ones that are hardened and glue them together! Eventually, you’ll have your strands that are ready to be hung. Pull out your tacks and find a wall and get pinning! I hang these flowers upside down.  For the top flower, I pull the leaves all the way to the base of the stem, leaving just a little room so they don’t slip off and fall. Take your tack and pin the leaves to the wall and wow! Look at your cute creation! I’m so proud. ?

You’ll need:

  • 1 bag of artificial leaves
  • Paintbrush
  • Elmer’s glue
  • Glitter (any cute fall colors: gold, brown, orange, silver)
  • Ribbon (maybe like a silky, shiny fall-colored one)
  • Hole punch

Take your leaves and apply Elmer’s glue to them using the paintbrush, then sprinkling glitter over them! Let the glue set, and then shake the leaf to get rid of the excess glitter. Take your hole punch and punch a hole at the top of each leaf, then thread a ribbon through and tie it to the longer strand of ribbon that holds all the leaves.

After all that hard work, why not treat yourself with some fall goodies.

 

2. Tasty fall baking recipes!

Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Cookies: yields about 35 cookies, depending on the size.

What you’ll need:

  • 2 ¼ cup of pumpkin puree
  • 1 tsp. baking soda (now if you don’t have baking soda, but you have baking powder you can use the baking powder as a substitute! For every ½ tsp of baking soda, it’s 1 tsp of baking powder)
  • 1 tsp of pumpkin pie spice
  • ½ tsp of kosher salt
  • 1 cup (2 sticks) of unsalted butter, softened
  • ¾ cup brown sugar
  • ½ cup of granulated sugar
  • ¾ cup of pumpkin puree (Honestly for this one I take a spoon and take big scoops of the puree, 2 spoonsful per each ¼ cup of puree)
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 tsp of pure vanilla extract
  • 2 cups of semi sweet chocolate chips (now I use milk chocolate but put in whatever you like! You could even add some nuts for a nice change in texture)

Kitchen supplies:

  • Two bowls, one for dry ingredients and the other for wet, make sure that the bowl that contains the wet ingredients is big enough for the dry because you’ll be dumping the dry into the wet!
  • Teaspoons
  • Regular spoon
  • A spatula or wooden spoon to mix all the ingredients together (I personally use a wooden spoon)
  • Whisk
  • Baking sheets
  • Parchment paper or aluminum foil

1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees

2. Whisk flour, baking soda, pumpkin pie spice, and salt

3. Cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy (I’m not too sure how fluffy it’s supposed to be lol but I just whip it up)

4. Beat in the pumpkin puree, egg, and vanilla; then add the flour mixture

5. refrigerate the dough for 30 mins (this helps the cookies from spreading I think? I’m not the best baker, but I get the job done)

6. bake for about 12-15 minutes (I wait until I can smell them, and then I go check on them!)

 

Here’s another recipe for those chocolate crackle cookies that everyone loves!

This recipe only takes about 15 minutes and yields around 30-48 cookies!

What you’ll need:

  • 1 box of devil’s food cake mix
  • ½ cup vegetable oil
  • 2 large eggs
  • Powdered sugar to roll the dough in

1. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees.

2. Stir all your ingredients together, a dough will begin to form, and everything should stick to itself.

3. We can now take pieces of dough to roll in the powdered sugar and place on a pan!

4. Bake for 8-10 minutes

5. Remove, let cool, and enjoy!
