Just in time for the weekend, here are some fantastic hikes to try!

The Playgrounds

The Playgrounds is a great hike if you feel like being adventurous.  It’s called the playgrounds for a reason; it forces you to be creative on your way up.  There’s lots of boulder/ rock climbing on this path.  Difficulty: 4/5

Inspiration Point

Inspiration Point is the classic UCSB hike.  Every student must do this hike at least once.  It has a beautiful view of Santa Barbara and the Pacific Ocean! Difficulty: 3/5

7 Falls

7 Falls begins at the same trail head as Inspiration Point, but separates into a different path midway.  It’s a bit more difficult, being steeper and having obstacles such as an uphill rope climb and moderate rock climbing.   But if you stick with it, you’ll see beautiful waterfalls at the end of the trail (if you’re lucky in this drought). Difficulty: 3.5/5

Rattlesnake Trail

The Rattlesnake Trail is a family fun trail where many people choose to bring their kids and dogs along.  It is a relatively easy trail, circling around Rattlesnake canyon.  But don’t worry, just because it’s called rattlesnake trail doesn’t mean you’ll see or get bitten by one!  Difficulty: 2/5

Cathedral Peak

Cathedral Peak is quite possibly the most strenuous hike in the Santa Barbara area.  You’ll need lots of water and determination to get to the top.  There’s a great deal of boulder hopping, but you will be rewarded with an amazing view stretching from Oxnard to Goleta.  Difficulty: 5/5

Ellwood Butterfly Grove

The Butterfly Grove is a short, easy path that is popular for locals to walk their dogs on.  This path leads to a Ellwood beach, which is usually pretty isolated.  If you visit this path during the months of November-February, you’re likely to see butterflies!  Difficulty: 1/5

Have fun and be safe gauchos!

Siobhán is a fourth year English major at UCSB. She is originally from the Bay Area and still misses hearing "hella" on the daily. She loves the ocean, photography/ film, music, and good eats (especially burritos). In her free time, she likes to obsessively watch Netflix, watch the sunset, and experiment with new recipes in the kitchen! You can see what she is up to on her instagram @swetzelll.
Kirby is a recent graduate from UCSB currently living in Los Angeles. As a proud Her Campus UCSB alum, she's happy to be back on the HC team covering one of her fave shows: "The Mindy Project." On any given day you can find her with her nose in a book (let's be real - it's a Kindle). In her free time, she likes petting dogs, binge-watching TV, and eating a lot of food. Find her on Instagram: @kirbynicoleb or @GirlBossEats.
