Yes, there really is an app for everything these days. Most of us spend lots of time on our phones, no matter how many times we’ve been asked, “Can you go one minute without that thing?!” We live in a digital era, we might as well embrace it! These free apps prove that our phones can be used for things other than Instagram and Facebook.

1. Todoist

Being a college student means you have tons of things to keep track of- homework, grocery shopping, project due dates, and the list just goes on and on. Todoist will help you organize everything by allowing you to make a to-do list and check off items as you go on with your day. You can check it in the morning as a reminder and feel accomplished at the end of the day when you look back at all of the things you checked off.

2. Anki

This app makes studying on the go nice and simple! You can create flashcards using text, audio, photos, and video. It is better than traditional flashcards because it keeps track of how well you remembered each card and how often you need to review it, so you don’t get stuck reviewing the ones you already know. You can use this app on your laptop and phone.

3. Between

Long distance relationships can be tough, but this app makes it easier to keep in touch with your loved one by allowing you to send voicemails, messages, and photos. These can then be saved to a private timeline, which makes it easier to reminisce on past memories and keep track of dates in the future when you can create new ones.

4. Circle of 6

Being alone on or near campus at night can make some feel uncomfortable and unsafe. This app helps keep you safe by allowing you to choose 6 contacts to stay connected with. You can send a pre-programmed “come and get me” message along with your GPS location to your contacts, or easily call local emergency numbers with the click of a button. This makes it easy to get help if you are ever approached/ attacked or feel unsafe.

5. Pocket Points

Although our phones can be very helpful, we must admit that they can also be distracting while in class. This app rewards you for not being on your phone with points that you can use at local and online stores. All you have to do is open the app while on campus, lock your phone, and earn points!
