Why I’ve Been Loving My Sunday Resets Recently

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UCLA chapter.

The so-called Sunday Reset has been a trend online for a while now. If you’ve never heard of it, it’s basically the idea that Sundays are meant for rest and organizational tasks, all with the purpose of getting ready for the upcoming week. And this is definitely a trend that I have gotten behind and am in full support of.

As I’m sure we all know, being a college student can be so busy and overwhelming at times. Between balancing schoolwork, extracurriculars and having a social life, hours in the day can fill so quickly and it’s so easy to let self care slide. Self care and relaxation oftentimes doesn’t feel like as much of a priority as everything else going on.

I know that when my schedule gets so busy that I end up neglecting self care, everything in my life seems like it starts to fall apart. Self care is definitely something that I rely on, but sometimes I’ve struggled with being able to fit it into my schedule. This is why the Sunday Reset has become my holy grail.

Being able to have time blocked off in my schedule, every week, to practice self care, has been life-changing for me. I typically don’t have many assignments or extracurricular activities on Sundays, which is why that day works perfect for me as a way to get ready and organized for the upcoming week.

These Sunday Resets consist of a couple different things for me and I feel like they all help me with something different, but they all combine to help me feel calm and prepared for my upcoming week. Obviously, self care and planning looks different for everyone, but I wanted to share some of my favorite things that I do in hopes of inspiring your own Sunday Resets.

One thing that I’ve dedicated myself to doing every Sunday is to sit down at my desk, light a little candle, play some calm music or a podcast and go through my entire schedule and assignment list for the week and get organized. I write to-do lists for every day, set aside time to work out every day and figure out what homework or exams I have. Being able to get this whole overview of my upcoming week really helps with keeping on top of things. I feel so much more productive by just planning this all out, and I find that it makes me more motivated to get things done later in the week.

Another thing I always do is spend some time deep-cleaning my space. During my busy days, tidying up is sometimes neglected, so I always clean up my floor and my desk. I reorganize my skincare and my makeup and I also spend some time dusting and wiping down my desk, which makes such a big difference. I change my sheets and wash my dishes and vacuum my floor. These tasks are all pretty quick, and doing them all together makes it feel so much easier and honestly, more fun. Cleaning up my space always makes me feel less stressed and it sets a good, peaceful tone for my week.

Next, I always take some time to journal. I love to journal and I wish that I had time to do it everyday, but again, when I’m super busy it just gets neglected. Journaling is honestly the best way for me to relieve my stress. Being able to write out all my feelings and just leave them on paper is so rewarding and writing out how I’m thinking also helps so much with figuring out what is actually consuming my thoughts (sometimes it isn’t as obvious as you’d think). I also try to write a list of things I was grateful for the past week. Overall, this process just helps me so much, and I definitely recommend journaling for everyone; it has truly helped my stress relief in a way that little to no other things can.

Finally, I just try to take some time for self care. This looks different every week, but typically it’s making a cup of tea, putting a face mask on and watching a TV show or a movie. Sometimes I work out or take an everything shower or just spend some time calling my sister or my mom. The general idea is just to spend some time doing something for me.

Overall, this routine has really helped me feel more productive, organized and at ease, and I’ve found that when I start my week off on this high, the rest of my week follows. It definitely starts my week off with a bang, and I recommend this process for everyone. No matter what it looks like for you, just spend some time on Sundays preparing for your week and practicing self care, and I guarantee your week will flow so much better!
