Spring is by far my favorite time of the year. The early Romans actually started their calendars in March with the spring equinox, aligning with the agricultural cycles of the time. For centuries, spring has been symbolic of growth and increased activity. So if you weren’t very productive this winter, don’t be too hard on yourself! With longer and warmer days ahead, now is the perfect time to get out of your seasonal funk, and I’ve created the guide for you to do it!

. Spring cleaning

Whether it’s clothes accumulating at the bottom of your closet or hundreds of unread emails in your inbox, nothing says spring reset like a freshly cleaned space. Whatever that thing at the top of your to do list is that you’ve been putting off, consider this your sign to get it done.

I recently cleaned out my desk, organizing and purging the space of anything I no longer needed. Having a clean desk has made studying easier, so this was the perfect way to start the quarter. Whether it’s cleaning your physical, digital or mental space, it’s time to make room for all that is to come this season!

. Set goals

Think of this as a means to finding yourself, rather than “fixing yourself.” If you set a goal and it feels like it’s for someone else’s approval, take a second to reevaluate what it would mean to you. A good goal to start with is intentionality.

A soft transition into spring means having things to look forward to, rather than goals that feel like homework. One of my favorite frameworks to follow is to set one goal that’s social, one that’s active, and one that’s creative. Following this, your list could look something like: host a dinner party, bike a new trail and take a pottery class.

Whatever you decide to do, make sure that it’s something that excites you!

. Go outside

After a cold and rainy winter and before the overwhelming heat of summer, lies the fresh, spring air! Try going for a walk or finding a space that feels like your own! Bring a picnic blanket and a book, or even your homework.

This is also a great way to explore your surroundings. Walk around campus or your college town and see if you can discover a new cafe or study spot!

. Pick up a new hobby

We all have that one thing that we’ve always wanted to try. Whether it’s rollerblading, pottery, or learning a new language, this is your sign to put yourself out there! The key to taking on something new is allowing yourself to be bad at it for a while. In your classes, you have to study to understand new material and the same is true for taking on a new hobby. Be patient and allow yourself to be a beginner.
