Julia Fox Went on the “Call Her Daddy Podcast” — And I Actually Like Her

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UCLA chapter.

My brain has been playing “Unca Gams” in a loop for a week now.

Call Her Daddy podcast host, “Founding Father” Alex Cooper, rarely does anything uncontroversial. A former Barstool Sports employee, Alex Cooper turns controversy into a funny and blunt show on sex and relationships. Her latest controversial guest needs no introduction; a dominatrix, artist, mother and now ex-girlfriend of Kayne West, Julia Fox

Who is Julia Fox? The internet has been transfixed by this question since Kayne West and Julia Fox embarked on the most bizarre post-break-up rebound I have ever witnessed. It was stranger than the Ariana Grande-Pete Davison shot gun engagement, a connection I now realize is very ironic. Sporting daring fashion choices, messy eye makeup looks and bizarre interview comments, Julia Fox is a fascinating creature.

The Internet picked Kim in the Kimye divorce, leaving Julia Fox a victim of a lot of hate. Despite this, the Call Her Daddy podcast episode revealed a very likable Julia Fox who does not care what people have to say about her. Let’s remove Kayne from Julia Fox’s narrative — I want to look into the outrageously juicy and awe-inspiring world of Julia Fox.

I was struck by how calm Julia Fox was in this episode. Dressed in casual chic, she didn’t appear nervous at all for Alex Cooper’s stream of revealing questions. Her mantra was simple: “I wanna be real … and I don’t need everyone to like me.” And wow, does she mean it.

She talks in a whimsical way, casually narrating a wild memoir like she is describing a trip to the mall. Julia Fox is from New York City and grew up in the nightlife of the city that never sleeps. She started clubbing at 14 years old. She even worked as a dominatrix, a job she got on CraigsList. Upon further questioning from Alex Cooper, Julia Fox even disclosed her favorite sexual fantasies and stories from her time in sex work.

The Call Her Daddy host asked her about the hate comments. Julia Fox said the only time it bothers her is when the comments focus on her son. Motherhood remains her number one focus. And as for the online reaction to her black smudged makeup look, she thinks the hate comments signal that she is doing something right. She even pointed out that after she debuted the eye look, Chanel took the look and used it for their own models. The look is all a part of her overall motto of winging it. People hated it, but Julia Fox loved it.

Before meeting Kanye, Julia Fox was already a breakout star. She starred in Josh Safdie’s (you guessed it) Uncut Gems with Adam Sandler. Her recent profile with The Cut reaffirmed that she had been “New York famous for about a decade.” Back in July 2021, Vogue called her “ a Hollywood bombshell smack dab in the middle of New York’s downtown scene.” She did a photoshoot with now member of the enemy (by association to Ye) Pete Davidson back in 2018. Her voyage in “The Kanye Experience,” a rather short journey, may have put her on the radar of mainstream media, but it was not her big break. That did not come from Kanye; it came from her.

The Kimye saga is comedic and melodramatic, involving social media-mediated family court hearings and Avengers-styled civil war. Julia Fox may technically be in the middle of this mess by association with Ye, but she seems rather unbothered. In the days following the breakup of their short-lived love affair, Julia Fox walked the runway and sported her own “Revenge Dress.” Time will tell if she can keep this manic momentum going, but I look forward to what else Julia Fox will give the world.
