AAPI YouTubers That Restore My Faith in Humanity

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UCLA chapter.

I am an avid YouTube watcher. Whether it be as background noise as I do homework or as a way to wind down my day on a positive note, I love watching YouTube videos. However, it has been quite difficult to come across YouTubers that I find worth clicking on their videos for. In the midst of Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month, this is the perfect time to share a couple of my all-time favorite AAPI YouTubers that truly make my days so much brighter with their inspiring and comforting content. These are channels that I have to immediately click when I see that they posted recently. Here are a few of my favorite AAPI YouTubers:

STEPHANIE SOO

I have been watching Stephanie Soo for the last four years and she remains at the top of my YouTube watch list. She is a Korean-American Youtuber in her late 20s. Her main channel consists of sit-down mukbangs, where she eats delicious food while sharing various stories, from serial killer incidents to anonymous confessions. My personal favorite of her two channels is her vlog channel, MissMangoButt, where she posts vlogs of her and her family. It is so comforting to watch how her family interacts and the positive energy can be felt through the screen. Stephanie and her family are truly such bright and authentic souls and their vlogs never fail to make me feel like I am a part of their family too. I laugh, I cry, I gasp. There is never a dull moment on her channel.

UR MOM ASHLEY

Ashley is also a Korean-American YouTuber and is in her early 20s. She is so visibly a genuine spirit. Because we are closer in age, I find her content to be very relatable. She films many videos with her siblings, whom she has a very close and hilarious relationship with. Her sense of humor is very unique and almost awkward, but in the most adorable and warm way, and she never fails to make me feel safe while watching her videos. She makes vlogs in New York, many of which also involve her three roommates. She is extremely vulnerable and strong, but at first glance may seem reserved and awkward. She is a great watch if you are a girl navigating relationships, independence and balance in your early 20s!

SAS-ASMR

Sas is a Thai-American YouTuber who lives in Canada. She is in her late 30s and posts ASMR videos! This one may be an unpopular opinion, but I love watching people eat. I was hesitant about ASMR at first, until I started watching her a couple of years ago. She eats all kinds of food from all cultures and always has the brightest smile. She vlogs her trips back to Thailand and really immerses her viewers into the culture. She and her sister both do ASMR and their family and kids are so heart-warming to watch. She is a great comfort-watch, hungry-watch or background noise while studying!

YouTube is filled with an influx of amazingly talented AAPI creators, but these are the few that have never failed me throughout the years. I find myself going on YouTube just to see if they posted and my day instantly brightens when they do. It is so important to know the quality of the people you are supporting on a day-to-day basis, and these AAPI Youtubers are nothing short of that.
