It’s a new year, so we’re reinventing ourselves— obviously. This year we’re manifesting more money, abundance, love, and the “Congratulations, you have been selected…” e-mails. And with that, you’re going to need all the ‘how-tos’, affirmation lists, and most importantly, playlists. To become a better you, you must surround yourself with positivity and abundance, so if you have that negative toxic friend that always drags you down to their level – consider this your sign to drop them. It’s important to keep your head held high and walk with purpose, especially on the way to work, class, or just a casual date.

Did it On’ em – Nicki Minaj

Clearly, if you want to reinvent yourself, you’re going to think highly of yourself. And listening to most, if not all, Nicki Minaj songs will evidently help you with that. In this song, the Queen of Rap talks about her competition and how she is climbing to the top. In the song, she reiterates “Put your twos in the air if you did it on’em…”, which mocks her competitors who are number two to her.

“More talent in my mother******’ left thumb…”

Maneater – Kelly Furtado

If you don’t know this early 2000s hit, well now is your time to be acquainted with it. This song is a part of Kelly Furtado’s ‘Loose’, which also had her hits ‘Promiscuous’ and ‘Say it Right’. She opens this song with “Everybody look at me”… and boy we are looking at her for sure. This is one of those songs when you finally get out of your healing era and you want to step back into the dating scene…but you quickly realize you deserve better than what these dating app boys are offering.

“Maneater, make you work hard, make you spend hard, make you want all of her love…”

Breakin’ Dishes – Rihanna

Did you just go through a breakup during the holidays? Maybe even got cheated on recently (First of all, he didn’t deserve you anyway…commit to the no contact)? Rihanna’s third studio album ‘Good Girl Gone Bad’ has all of the hits for you to start reinventing yourself – but start with Breakin’ Dishes. This Barbadian artist gives you the adrenaline rush where it hits the spot and just wants to make you break their dishes, bleach their clothes, and fight a man.

“I’ma fight a man tonight”

Circus – Britney Spears

It would be wrong to not include one of the most iconic pop singers of this generation in this list – Britney Spears. This pop singer has multiple ‘reinvent yourself’ like songs including…

  • Gimme More
  • Stronger
  • Work B*tch
  • Womanizer
  • Piece of Me

But, in this particular song, you get to clearly reinvent yourself and feel like you’re the main character of your own world – because that’s how it should be. To reinvent yourself, you must prioritize yourself and treat yourself like you’re royalty.

“All eyes on me in the center of the ring, just like a circus…”

Cozy – Beyoncé

We know that Beyoncé has way more ‘reinvent yourself’ songs in her discography….like way more. But, to get a different vibe than just feeling you’re in the spotlight or you’re defeating your competition – this song takes a different route. The lyrics share a new perspective of insecurities and how you shouldn’t hate yourself for the body you have because it’s the only body you have. You need to feel cozy with yourself and have an abundance of self-love to lock that security so you make sure no one can tear down your high.

“She’s a god, she’s a hero”

New Bottega – Azalea Banks

One word for this: opulence. This song makes you feel like going to Rodeo Drive, but in Orlando’s case…the Mall at Millenia, and dropping all of your money at all the stores you love. Personally, this song is one of the first songs I listen to when I try to get out of a funk and it works every time because the song opens up with a groove you can’t be sad to. Another song to look out for when you make your ‘reinvest yourself’ playlist is ‘212’ by the same artist.

“I gotta stay rich and famous”

Break Free – Ariana Grande

I mean come on…the meaning is in the title. But if you can’t figure it out for yourself, Ariana Grande shares her experience in a situationship and how she was under his spell and she broke free from said spell. We know this 2014 song might seem like a weird mix, being nostalgic and cringe. But, it’s that one song that you haven’t heard in so long and the bridge always takes you to another planet…just like in the music video.

“I’m stronger than I’ve ever been before”

Greedy – Tate McRae

This upcoming pop star has been really coming for the it-girl title and she’s almost there with back-to-back hit songs, Greedy and Exes. In this song, the multiple award-winning dancer sings about an egotistical boy who undermines her and thinks he knows her better than she does. She got the ick when she figured that out, but wants to keep playing with his feelings so she puts on a persona – iconic if you ask me.

“I would want myself, baby, please, believe me…”

Pluto – Melanie Martinez

In her third studio album, the talented Melanie Martinez sang this song and shared her story of wanting to grow and how something is stopping her from letting her grow. So, she shuts everything out, to better herself so she can find herself…by herself. You’ll often hear her talking to ‘Pluto’ and it’s because it is the planet of death, rebirth, and transformation. I guarantee you that you’re going to ascend from the ashes when you listen to the bridge – it’s life-changing.

“I’ll bathe in my ashes, rise like a phoenix, show me who I am becoming…”

Reinventing yourself is important

If you learned anything while reading this article, it’s important to take care of yourself – even if you’re not trying to have a major transformation.
