Thanksgiving is the time to be thankful for the amazing people in your life and all the breathtaking moments you’ve been able to experience throughout your life. It’s personally my favorite holiday because I think it’s such an important time to remember to not lose sight of how wonderful the world truly is, and sitting back and being thankful is such a neat way to appreciate everything you’ve been given.

However, this year I highly recommend you to not only be thankful for others but be thankful for yourself. You are so unique and valuable and it never hurts to give yourself a little pat on the back every now and then. To bring you some self-love, I utilized the book “The Sun and Her Flowers” by Rupi Kaur in her last passage “Blooming.” It focuses solely on the importance of self-love and self-growth, which is something we should all be striving for every single day. Remember to take these words to heart and know that we are all growing in our own beautiful way, one day at a time, and that is something to be thankful for.

You Are Irreplaceable

“The universe took its time on you / crafted you to offer the world / something different from everyone else / when you doubt / how you were created / you doubt an energy greater than us both / –irreplaceable”

What a neat concept: you are truly and 100% irreplaceable. No one could ever be exactly like you and you have been gifted with your own uniqueness of what makes you, you! It’s as if we’re all snowflakes. No snowflake has ever been the same as the other, just how no human has ever been even close to the same as anyone else. No matter how many people are on this Earth you are still your very own limited edition, masterpiece of a person. We all are composed of our own thoughts, ideas, abstracts and concepts on everything, and we have all been gifted with beautiful minds with limitless potential. You can never be replaced– you are simply irreplaceable.

You Are You

“Their concept of beauty / is manufactured / i am not / –human”

In today’s world, we are constantly bombarded with social media portraying women to be these flawless, radiant creatures when in reality, it’s all a huge lie. If you ever go on the Instagram explore page, have seen all the Snapchat filters or even a billboard on the street, you know what I’m talking about. Practically all of it has gone through major editing, and frankly, humans are flawed, but that is what makes people beautiful. Beauty is when you roll out of bed in the morning with no makeup on and your hair sticking up. Beauty is in the way you treat people. Beauty cannot be ignored or hidden because when you truly are yourself, your beauty radiates from miles in every direction. People can try to make beauty be about how you look or dress, but true beauty is within all of us and we need to remind ourselves how beautiful we truly are.

“What is the greatest lesson a woman should learn? / that since day one, she’s already had everything / she needs within herself, it’s the world that / convinced her she did not”

You Are a Butterfly

“Representation / is vital / otherwise the butterfly / surrounded by a group of moths / unable to see itself / will keep trying to become the moth / –representation”

Could you imagine a butterfly trying to be a moth? It sounds pretty ridiculous, but when you apply it to your life, why would you ever compare yourself to anyone else? You are a one of kind butterfly on a journey different than anybody else’s with the ability to do anything you set your mind to. What are you waiting for? You are everything and more so be grateful, stay humble, and always love yourself. A butterfly can’t do much if it’s convinced itself it’s a moth.

“You Are One Of a Kind: Look down at your body / whisper / there is no home like you / –thank you”

All these quotes and underlying meanings can be so beneficial to you if you only allow them to. Repeat these things to yourself and engrave them into your mind because loving yourself leads you to be able to love others. Being at peace with yourself is such an incredible thing and I promise you taking these concepts to heart will lead to an immense amount of self-love and self-growth. Always be thankful for everyone, everything, and yourself, because whether you know it or not, people will see a big difference in who you are: a growing, beautiful once-in-a-lifetime kind of person.
