So, this year I am working on putting my health first but of course, that is easier said than done. To help start this process I learned what is most important during times when I feel like death from sickness. So, during this time when you, your friends and family are suffering from a variety of running noses and sore throats, it is more important than ever to put yourself first. Here are some of the ways you can take care of yourself during this cold and flu season!

Hydrate Don’t Dydrate

Something I always have struggled with is making sure I’m drinking enough water in the day. Water is truly the miracle worker that we don’t deserve. It gives us energy and helps our body stay healthy. Whether you are feeling sick or not water is the best friend that will never let you down.

Get Plenty of Rest

Having a good sleeping schedule in college can feel impossible and I by no means am close to having one myself. What I have realized in the last few weeks of being confined to bed is that getting enough rest can make all the difference in your day. I know this is something we all say we know but I only know one friend in my life who actually has a good sleep schedule. So, implementing a solid sleep schedule should really be everyone’s New Year’s resolution.

Be a Soaper Hero

As college students, we are around so many people in classes and on campus. Literally, everything around us is covered in germs and most things are not a priority to clean. To help not spread germs wash your hands whenever you have an opportunity and carry hand sanitizer wherever you go.

Be Active Where You Can

I know exercise can be hard to fit into your busy schedule and trust me I never make time to be active but I know that if I took better care of my body by keeping it in shape maybe I wouldn’t have been sick for so long. Walking to class, going to a yoga session or taking advantage of the free gyms on campus are just some ways to be more active in your busy schedule.

Listen To Your Body

The most important thing you can do for yourself is to listen to what your body needs. If your body is feeling the need for food then eat, if you are tired then rest and if you are anxious then do something that will make you feel relaxed and happy. You only get one body and it does all it can to take care of you so listen to it.

Staying healthy can be hard in the craziness of college but it’s so important to put you and your health first. Don’t be afraid to say no and do what is best for you. The worse shape your body is in then the longer it takes your body to recover when something is wrong. Also if things get bad please don’t hesitate to seek professional medical help because it is time to stop putting our health on the back burner.
