Glossier: The Skincare Edit…a Good Deal or a Good Ditch?

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UCF chapter.

Pink pouches, aesthetically pleasing images and five-star reviews.

This is what I picture when I hear the name Glossier.

As an incredibly broke skincare/beauty novice myself, I often enjoy the Glossier Instagram feed more regularly than their products in real life. One consequence of my lack of funds is that good deals are my weakness. I’ll admit that to anyone, and this bundle of seven different products for $50 was simply too good to pass up.

This limited edition bundle includes mini versions of the Milky Jelly CleanserSuper Bounce SerumPriming Moisturizer RichBalm Dotcom in Original and Rose, Futuredew Oil-Serum Hybrid, a branded Glossier headband and a Glossier You perfume sample.

Here are my thoughts after using these products for over a month.

Milky Jelly Cleanser

The first time I ever put this product on my face, I was desperately uncomfortable. The texture was completely unique: a balm-y, gel-like substance that almost seemed gritty. I couldn’t tell where I’d applied it because it was completely clear and dried almost instantly. I decided that I hated it.

Fast forward just three days and the (many) blackheads on my nose and chin — ones I hadn’t ever been able to get rid of before — were all but a distant memory. I was shocked and blown away by the sheer power of this product within such a small number of uses. This stuff works and that’s all you really need to know.

Super Bounce Serum

There’s something about this serum that makes me feel luxurious. Is it working? To be honest, I couldn’t tell you. Do I like it? I really do. Would I pay $28 for the full-sized bottle? Absolutely not! This seems like the type of product that can be life-changing for some and completely skippable for others. So I recommend trying to find out which group you’re in before you purchase this.

Priming Moisturizer Rich

This is another super luxurious product that is possibly doing things for my skin…emphasis on the “possibly.” As the name implies, it’s an incredibly rich and thick moisturizer. I only need a few swipes in order to feel like my skin is receiving the hydration it needs. My main issue with this product is that it smells like a lavender field is blooming on your face.

Two Balm Dotcoms

I hate drinking water. I know it’s terrible, but I hate it and my lips are always severely chapped. Luckily, for all of us anti-hydration folks, balm dotcom is here to save the day. It instantly soothes chapped lips and hides all evidence of cracks or chips. This bundle comes with both the original and the rose flavor, but it might as well have only included the original because the rose is disgusting. I won’t ever be able to get past the taste and smell, but apparently some people love it. As for the product itself, I can’t wait to buy it in the mango, berry and birthday cake flavors.

Futuredew

I put this oil/serum on the first day I got this bundle and then I never used it again. There’s absolutely nothing I like about this product. First of all, it’s incredibly oily and makes my skin feel like a greasy mess. Secondly, it has a very weird tint to it that makes my face appear splotchy. If you’re the type that can pull off the “dewy” look well, maybe this is for you, but I can’t stand it. Maybe I’ll revisit it again soon to see if my opinions change, but I’m not optimistic.

Headband / Glossier You Perfume Sample

As a girl with bangs that love to misbehave, I know the importance of a good headband. Let me tell you, this is the best headband I’ve ever owned. It has three elastic bands that run on the inside of the headband above the fabric which stop the headband from sliding off of your head. I’ve worn it for hours before and never had to adjust my hair.

The other gem that came with this bundle is a small perfume sample of Glossier You. It was a simple peel-off sample, similar to the ones you can find in magazines, but that piece of paper continued to smell amazing for two whole weeks. Words cannot express how good this perfume smells. Musky, earthy undertones are complemented by a sweet, slightly fruity scent that brings joy to every nose around.

The products in this bundle were a mixed bag (or should I say a mixed molded paper case), but there’s not one part of me that regrets buying it. These products are lasting much longer than I thought they would, and the bottom line is that this bundle is simply a fantastic deal.

Are you tempted to see if you’ll go crazy for Glossier? I’d recommend finding out. This limited-edition bundle is likely going to be taken off the market soon so act fast!
