Rain is finally beginning to hit Davis, so it’s time to start pre-planning everything you’ll be doing while you’re trapped indoors (besides studying, of course). These are just a few ideas, but feel free to tweak them to fit your style!
1. Clean Out Your Closet
Assuming you have a good chunk of time on your hands, it’s never a bad idea to go through your closet and rid yourself of some of the clutter. Or, if you can’t bring yourself to get rid of anything, just clean it up or reorganize everything. You know how, in books, rain is usually a metaphor for cleansing and rebirth? Use this time to clean out your life.
2. Make A Real Dinner
Going out to eat is much more cumbersome when it’s pouring rain outside, so now would be the perfect time to try out that recipe that’s been laying on the counter for a month. A warm, homemade dinner will feel so luxurious and cozy, as opposed to fast food or microwave dishes.
3. Online Shopping
You’re inside, so you might as well get some of your shopping done! I’m personally a huge fan of online shopping (which can sometimes get dangerous). Scrolling through clothes/makeup/books/trinkets online is such an effortless way to pass the time. Even if you don’t buy anything, just looking can be fun, too.
4. Clean Out Your Email
A bit boring, but necessary. Remember all those emails you opened and told yourself you’d respond to them later? Or all the email subscriptions you get that are completely overtaking your inbox?
5. Binge-Watch a TV Series
I do this on perfectly sunny days as well, but I tend to feel less guilty about it when it’s raining. The weather makes me feel tired, so it’s relaxing to just sit back and watch a show I’ve been meaning to get to.
6. Meditation
The sound of rain pattering on your roof and windows is methodical and so relaxing, so you might as well capitalize on this. Youtube has some really good meditation videos, and all you need to do is seclude yourself in a quiet, comfy place and let yourself go. I was skeptical at first, but found it so worthwhile in the end.
7. Color!
So I’m not a huge coloring/art fan because I’m so bad at it, but I know a lot of other people find it extraordinarily soothing. Adult coloring books are everywhere nowadays, but if you don’t have one of those you can also print out pages online or just freehand on a blank sheet of paper.
8. Educate Yourself
It’s always good to keep yourself up to date and aware of the myriad of events happening around you. Now’s the perfect time to make yourself a cup of tea (or another beverage of your choice), wear your comfiest pajamas, and read up on current events and topics that are relevant to your interests and life.
